But seriously, when they came out with the Scud, didn't Ferrari say it does a the test track 1 sec a lap faster than the Enzo?
So, it's not eeeeentirely unbelievable the new F??? could do it faster than the FXX - but it's certainly on the edge of believability.

They might in both cases be comparing times for the new car on new asphalt with old times for cars which in each case we would expect to be faster.
Just like the Nürburgring lap times were reputed to have been reduced overall due to a new surface laid down between 2007 and 2008.

Rossi, I believe the front end will be similar to the Scud. I also believe the rear will be similar to all the other Ferrari models i.e. single round tail light. The exhaust will be located in the rear center of the car. Side silhouette we pretty much know based on the partially uncovered car with the front and rear for the most part hidden.
For the most part, we have a pretty good idea what it will look like.

570bhp? From a 4.7l engine NA? More than 121bhp per liter? Hmmmmmm.....
And a jump of 60bhp from Scuderia? Hmmmmm.....
Either it's a turbo, so 570bhp is correct but it will weight more than Scuderia so very close in performance but Scuderia still faster OR they talk about a different car. A mid engine NA V12.
I don't buy it.

The new GT3 is 435bhp from 3.8l. So more than 114bhp per liter. Just to give you an idea.
Perhaps from a 5l NA V8 engine you may get 570bhp BUT that's a stretch. So it sounds like they launch first the next Scuderia.

Ferrari's timing could be excellent. With a Sept 2009 launch and first deliveries sometime next year when the financial markets should be picking up nicely.... should be a real winner if these rumours are accurate...

The 3.2 sec sprint might be plausible (at a stretch), but the 2 sec faster than the FXX claim is ludicrous. The FXX is 7 seconds faster than the Enzo round Fiorano for crying out loud! As for the Enzo vs Scuderia issue. Ferrari claims that they are equally quick at Fiorano, but several independent tests have shown that the Enzo with its vast power/weight - straightline performance advantage is much quicker (TG track for example) round a circuit. Fiorano is very twisty though hence the identical times between the two, since Enzo's huge power cannot be fully exploited.

I was watching a re-run of Top Gear recently - the segment was about how today's road cars are as fast as race cars and rally cars from 20-30 years ago.
Some of these figures IMHO do add weight to that theory....
This could be one of the few good things to look forward to about getting 20 years older...

I guess the say it will be a tad quicker than the Scuderia, as each new Ferrari has to beat the time of the last model.
Anyway, I would be more than pleased with Scuderia performance, the most important things are technology and design.

Believe it or not, the biggest contributor to the declining numbers has little to do with horsepower or weight - 500 horsepower 20 years ago is the same 500 horsepower today. 1,000 lbs is 1,000 lbs.
Suspension and chassis development plays a factor but the biggest contributor is the thing that like 90% of the driving population doesn't give a second though to until it needs replacement -- advancement in tire technology and rubber composition!
Any of you who ride motorcycles and have been doing so for >10 years knows how true this statement is.

Though it doesn't hold much news, the info about the modular assembly system and the last passage about the difference in maintenance hours between 599 and California is rather interesting. I didn't know that before.
Also the pic of the new car, though obviously an artist's impression, has a nice appearance and does look good IMO.

121 hp/L is very possible. The Honda S2000 had 120hp/L quite a few years ago. The GT3 only has 114hp/L, but it doesn't have direct injection like the new Ferrari.

That's another reason for the California being priced where it is and tuned/styled the way it is ...to allow harder core F430 succesor, base priced in the high $200K USD range, with the later "performance " versions pushing high $300K base price.Marketing spin will be " Enzo beating performance at a fraction of it's price "

Well, my wife doesn't need a Cali and we don't do longer trips in a car. Guess I can concentrate on the F142.
