CloseNot sure if you guys have seen this, looks pretty damn cool in my opinion, especially on dark colors. Yes, factory option. The picture has been taken in bright sunlight, you can see it from the right Cayenne and the very "shiny" frontlight (and unfortunately also from the pollen on the paint).

Looks good - I presume the tinting makes no difference to the power of the headlights?
I mean... tinted windscreens reduce sunlight coming in... so why doesn't this impair light going out?

AFAIK it's usually possible for filters to restrict light coming in one direction while allowing it to pass unhindered in the opposite direction.

Looks much more harmoneus 
especially on darker colors.
But I think the transparent covers of the lights are also slightly tinted because not only does the backround plastic looks darker color (dark plastic instead of silver-mirror type) but also the inside "lenses" look much darker through the covers which would lead to believe that the cover is tinted as well, or maybe its an effect of the picture 
Anyway, yet another way to Porsche get you in the optional equipment.

mmh..i think is all fault of the darker parts inside,and also the lenses have a darker aspect..due to darker reflex of the parts around them..
i think the cover can't be darker due to problem of "going through" of bixenon lights ,BTW we need other pics!!

Wandering what the retrofit option would set you back, the front lights slide out very easily so changing them wouldn't be a bit deal. (2500 Euro option?)

no,on the GTI are standard with Xenon and standard lights too,saw it today,they looks good!

the cover could be dark when looked from the outside but clear from the inside like some tinted windows or see through mirrors with unidiretional filters but definately looks more clear in that picture you posted
My work with illuminated displays lets me speculate a bit.
The "black" effect probably works this way: For a given tint level, the attenuation of the headlamp output is only half as much as the reflected light originating from outside the cover. This is because reflected light has to make two trips through the tinted covering while the light originating inside the fixture only has to pass through the tint once.
If the tint has 15% light loss, the headlamp will be dimmer by 15% (0.85 of original level) when using a tinted cover but the reflections will be 0.85 x 0.85 or lose about 28% of the non-tinted value.
It's the same deal as window tints. Make sense?
"One-way" mirrors work by the same principle. They are "mostly" reflective, but maybe only 90% reflective. They let 10% (or so) of the light pass through to the other side. The observer sits in a darkened room for two reasons. 1) because the image seen through the back of the mirror is somewhat dim, and 2) because if the observer had lots of illumination, the 10% of the room light that made it from the observation room into the main event room might be bright enough to "leak" through the mirror effect and reveal the observers to the observed.
