Thanks for posting the photos of my next car.... I'm just not sure what I'm looking at. as obviously it is nothing representative of the new car, as they will certainly not go back to the old front bumper/ headlights styling. I do notice a different roof line, and side mirrors that are mounted on the doors rather than than A-pillars.
Thanks again and looking forward to seeing this model evolve.

Thanks for posting, doesn't look very different from the current car (if it indeed is not just a test "mule") except the rear deck is higher. Maybe it's a test bed for the rumoured four cylinder engine.
Just a thought, but assuming it's an in-line 4 cylinder lump adapted from the VW range, Porsche won't be able to call that variant a Boxster as the name is an amalgam of Boxer (for the horizontally opposed engine) and Roadster)

The main thing I'm noticing with the newer mules is the tight gap between the fender opening and the tire. Cool. Return to the good old days of the 928 and 968 styling, with tight, after all these years with SUV like gaps between tire and fender opening.
I wonder what is behing that; could it height adjustable suspensions?

Golfster?

08 Carrera 4S, Guards Red, H&R, PSE
You are wellcome guys!!! Just did my job. Hope when this car will appear I will be able also to upgrade to one of these. Of course the bumpers, lights and all the minor elements are not representative at all... but the overall volume looks much better than the current car.

"The sports car maker has decided to cancel the Magna deal. With Volkswagen now buying up the remains of Karmann, the Boxster and Cayman are now expected be built at the coachbuilder's factory in Osnabrueck, Germany."

hmmm, my guess is that the higher rear deck is not for the placement of the engine, but for the placement of the metal roof... Again, unnaturally well looking cloth top makes me suspect a metal folding roof.
Is it just me, or is the rear overhang also much longer?

A metal roof for the Boxster in spite of the Cayman

Yes!! It makes absolute sense - when you consider that they now have the Spyder for those who like a flapping canvas roof..

Present: 2005 STi, 2002 M Coupe
Future: 2010 Cayman S - pending order; 2010 Audi S5 - on order
the higher back end ties into the rear fender height and tailights as well as the bulking up more muscular look.
i would be totally shocked and cannot agree that there will be a metal roof - too much weight
looks better all around than the 2009 re-skin; almost as good looking as my RS 60!

I have to agree. If you look at the 2nd picture (in the Karussel), the roof is not flush with the A-pillar or windscreen surround. The plastic bit where the window meets the hood is partially obscured, too. It definitely looks to me like a canvas roof stretched over the top of something else. Personally I find the current canvas roof just fine . I really hope it't not getting heavier..

Thanks Ron...I like how the 981 looks. I suspect we will not see it until sometime in 2012 after 991 is launched. Perhaps they will introduce it at the LA auto show next December. Porsche's introduced the Spyder and the Cayman R at the LA show so maybe they will continue that pattern.
ABG, the article itself is about a manager, called MAtthias Mueller.
The only text about the boxter is on the right of the picture, mentioning that the "edgier" look of the next 911 will also be implemented on the next boxster, that is due in 2012 and then for the first time also with an eco 4 cylinder engine.
Cheers Joost.
