RS Spyder is already 4 years old car and its development has stopped. So I prefer no RS Spyders on the grid than a half-hearted private effort that would leave a bad taste for this car.

Better to leave when you are on top after 3 magnificent ALMS seasons.

I agree, but as a kid I remember the 956 and latter the 962 in LeMans... and I wish Porsche starts a real official, factory supported program for racing again....

Re: 12 Hours of Sebring - Saturday

You wont see a "real" official Porsche AG racing team again in a hurry. Not as long as WW is at the helm. What you will see is a factory backed team such as Penske Racing which will essentially be the "official" Porsche team. If the rumors are correct, we should see a Porsche LMP1 next year....run by Penske.

Re: 12 Hours of Sebring - Saturday

Times were much slower than in the practice sessions and especially in relation to Winter Testing.

The RSR's were almost 2 seconds quicker during Winter Testing.

Re: 12 Hours of Sebring - Saturday

The pole position for Acura is indeed surprising, for some reason the Audi but especially the Peugeot are not as dominating as in the past.

Porsche was very successful in GT2 but I am curious how everybody will perform over the long distance. BMW placed 7th and DNF with the second car.

    GT2 class in detail:

    Ergebnis Qualifying GT2-Klasse

    1. Dirk Werner (D), Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, 2.03,051 Min.
    2. Jörg Bergmeister (D), Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, 2.03,433
    3. Gianmaria Bruni (I), Ferrari 430 GT, 2.03,487
    4. Mika Salo (SF), Ferrari 430 GT, 2.03,829
    5. David Murry (USA), Ford GT, 2:04,333
    6. Dominik Farnbacher (D), Panoz Esperante, 2.04,437
    7. Bill Auberlen (USA), BMW E92 M3, 2.04,566
    8. Chris Hall (USA), Dodge Viper, 2.05,619
    9. Johnny Cocker (GB), Aston Martin Vantage, 2.05,692
    10. Nicky Pastorelli (NL), Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, 2.05,805

Re: 12 Hours of Sebring - Saturday

“Obviously, qualifying went well and I’m really happy with the pole. But I didn’t think my time would be good enough. The track felt pretty slippery and the team asked me at one point if everything was okay. It wasn’t until I came into the pits that they told me I had the fastest time. But I really didn’t have to push hard. The car felt that good. This is our first race supported by Porsche Motorsport so I think it shows the capabilities of the team and why we have that support. The team has done such a great job with the set-up, I feel really good for the race.” - Dirk Werner

“I think we are very close to our race setup, but it wasn’t quite the right balance for qualifying today. We’ve made a lot of progress during this week’s testing and practice: overall the car is performing very well.” Jorg Bergmeister

Re: 12 Hours of Sebring - Saturday

Unfortunately the #87 (FarnbacherLoles- Dirk Werner) had an off and hit the wall.

Some damage , but it seems like it will be fixed by tomorrow.

Re: 12 Hours of Sebring - Saturday

    Ferdie:

The pole position for Acura is indeed surprising, for some reason the Audi but especially the Peugeot are not as dominating as in the past.

Porsche was very successful in GT2 but I am curious how everybody will perform over the long distance. BMW placed 7th and DNF with the second car.

    GT2 class in detail:

    Ergebnis Qualifying GT2-Klasse

    1. Dirk Werner (D), Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, 2.03,051 Min.
    2. Jörg Bergmeister (D), Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, 2.03,433
    3. Gianmaria Bruni (I), Ferrari 430 GT, 2.03,487
    4. Mika Salo (SF), Ferrari 430 GT, 2.03,829
    5. David Murry (USA), Ford GT, 2:04,333
    6. Dominik Farnbacher (D), Panoz Esperante, 2.04,437
    7. Bill Auberlen (USA), BMW E92 M3, 2.04,566
    8. Chris Hall (USA), Dodge Viper, 2.05,619
    9. Johnny Cocker (GB), Aston Martin Vantage, 2.05,692
    10. Nicky Pastorelli (NL), Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, 2.05,805

The times are quite close... so it will be interesting to see the race.. Go Porsche!!!!

^^^Wow! I knew nothing about that documentary.

They contracted NFL Films shoot it  ... and everyone here knows NFL Films is THE BEST in the business when it comes to shooting and editing sports films!

Really looking forward to seeing it on Friday night. It'll probably hit YouTube / Google Video in 2-3 days.

What a disaster for Porsche, it was.Smiley

A comment from Salo (winning Ferrari): "Some laps the new Porsches could not keep it consistent, but we saw in the week they can do really quick laps but in the long run we can beat them.”

Audi gave another virtuoso performance with a car "out of the box"  Smiley

Re: 12 Hours of Sebring - Saturday

I have just arrived back from SA and have just seen the awful results.

The Porsche's were much quicker than the Ferrari's. Fastest lap times:

2:02.494 for the #45 Flying Lizard, and 2:02.623 for the # 87 Frnbacher Loles.

2:03.087 for the Risi Ferrari (Fastest Ferrari)

"With Joerg Bergmeister in the No. 45 starting second and Seth Neiman in the No. 44 starting 13th on the GT2 grid, both Porsches ran into trouble within the first ten minutes. The clean race start quickly turned ugly for the Lizards when on the fourth lap the No. 45 was hit by another GT2 car, causing rear suspension damage to the No. 45. The Lizard crew made the repair in the pits but the lengthy stop dropped the No. 45 from third to 13th. Meanwhile, the No. 44 had its own issues with an early race spin which sent it back to the pits for an unscheduled pit stop and fresh tires."- Flying Lizard's

     I did. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a solid 8.

TiVo started acting crazy and I couldn't record it. I've been searching Google Video for someone who uploaded it and I don't see it yet.

I'm sure it'll pop up in the next few days ...

Re: 12 Hours of Sebring - Saturday

I saw it the other night. Being a big NFL fan to begin with, the "NFL films" style was immediately apparent, but I found it suited the drama of motor racing (and Le Mans in particular) really nicely. Very heavily Audi-focused, I don't remember seeing that in the information, but really good. Those NFL films guys really know how to weave a story.

Re: 12 Hours of Sebring - Saturday

^^^It was heavily Audi focused because the film was commissioned by Audi. :)

    This is the Porsche/Panoz incident.Smiley

Re: 12 Hours of Sebring - Saturday

Are you sure it was Lieb's fault?

An incident like this in F1 would have been  the subject of protests, deliberations and discussions for the next month or so! Here it's just a racing accident which is good for the sport.

Re: 12 Hours of Sebring - Saturday

No , not Lieb's fault IMO. He was at least half a car length in front. He had basically completed the overtaking maneuver. Remember however, that the ALMS is owned by Don Panoz.

Smiley no surprise! The commendators very absolutely wrong too.

The way I saw it, was that the Panoz although being definitely passed just didn't give enough space and the contact was an inevitability.
