Not joking - I´m serious. My opinion is, that the car looks far better then 612. Am I the only one who has seen the car in person?
I don´t want to speak about performance - Nordschleife Panamera turbo under 8 minutes

ALDO:
WR has driven the Panamera turbo under 8 minutes. Porsche had the same day Audi RS6, BMW M5 and BMW M6. The Panamera was the fastest car.
The secret is, that the Panamera has a very strong chassis and AWD. The car doesn´t get weak.
--
AM
That was pretty much expected as the Panamera's sole reason for existant is to beat the M5 and make sure that 911 owners who want to trade down for a more practical car, don't have to look elsewhere for a performance sedan. Porsche have said that the Panamera is far better around the ring than most sports cars so I expected the Turbo to be faster than the AMV8, R8, F430 and 997S in all performance categories.

Panamera Turbo faster than a F430 seems to be a little overoptimistic. I
assume the Ring time is around 997.2 S level?

Test date of these two particular cars?
F430 and 997.2 are two different stages of development, F430 goes back to the nineties, can't really compare them. Take the successor and compare it to the current Porsche range, then we talk again.
Sometimes I find your Porschephile arrogance rather annoying.

Well Porsche don't lie. Several months back they said that the Panamera is a four door sports car and indeed the performance figures support that claim. Further more they have mentioned that the car is faster around the ring than some sportscars and if you ask any car enthusiast, sports cars start at 997S, AMV8, R8 and F430. Which suggest to me that the Panamera Turbo is seriously fast, and it is indeed priced like a sports car too. Bare in mind that Porsche has worked very long on developing the car and performance is where all the engery was put, too bad they didn't spare enough time on the design. But with semi-racing tires I predict that the Panamera can rival some serious sports cars around the track.
Here are some sport auto figures:
Porsche 997 GT3 ----------------------------------------- 7.48 min (R compound tires)
Corvette C6 Z06 ------------------------------------------ 7.49 min
Lamborghini Murciélago -------------------------------- 7.50 min

The secret of life is to admire without desiring.
Both are the current cars from the respective manufacturers. The new F car will come soon but so will the new PDK Turbo and then the 991 in 2 years time etc etc.
If the F430 is 90s design the 997 is 60s design so IMO this is not relevant.
And it is not a matter of being Porschephile or not. I happen to favour substance and facts over myths, hype and show off in cars and in everything else.
Regarding Sport Auto Ring times few things needs to be cleared:
-since May 2008 some sectors of the Ring are resurfaced. Therefor you CA NOT compare times measured till 04/2008 with the one measured from 05/2008
-example: Auto Bild Sportscar edition tested R8 with normal Pirelli P Zero tires and Sascha Bert achieved 8.01min without any problem. Even one sector was partially damp... So, it Bert that much better drive then HvS? I do not think so, just he achieved better time. Tom Kristenssen unofficial Ring time for R8 4.2 FSI is 7.50min with Corsa tires, HvS was way of that mark, Bert on the other hand was pretty good...
-IMHO Panamera 7.58min Ring time in Rohrl hands is as valid as GT-Rs 7.29min in Suzuki's hands... So, there is something common between GT-R and Panamera die hard fans-they are true belivers.

Read my post properly. I did say nothing about design, I was talking about stages of development, that's a huge difference.
Also
you have to take into account, that the development of tyres changes
a lot over the years. So it's rather useless to compare a test from 2005 with one from 2008. And then there's the problem with the Ring itself, as Kreso already described.
The secret of life is to admire without desiring.
OK it seems that with cars,as with politics I am afraid, everything can be argued either way depending on whose side you are on.
However, even if we take into account everything you and Kreso mention above as mitigating factors for the F car's time, the time is too slow for the configuration of this car (too performance/racing focussed, mid-engined, high output engine, dimensions), its very high price and reputation.
Some more recent times:
Gallardo LP 560-4 11/08 7.52 w/o sportreifen
Scuderia 07/08 7.39.
What do you think F430 F1 with sportreifen, most recent time would be? Just below 7.50 perhaps? Still too slow given the the type of car it is or wants us to believe it is.
