Powercar Magazine: Cayman S vs. 997
The recent issue of Powercar features an interesting track comparison (HHR GP Circuit, Driver: Kurt Thiim) of Cayman S and base 997 (both with PDK, PASM, 19" rims, same tires - no Cups). The track was not in perfect condition (4°C, one very small section was still a bit wet).
Interestingly, both cars have very similar weight figures: 1480kg (997) vs 1435kg (Cayman S).
Key metrics of the test: (997 /// Cayman S)
0-100: 4.3s /// 4.6s
0-200: 15.3s /// 16.8s
100-0 cold: 36.8m /// 37.0m
100-0 warm: 34.0m /// 34.1m
Lap time: 2.01,9 /// 2.04,1
Kurt Thiim writes that the 997 benefits from:
- more powerful engine coming out of slower bends
- more stable setup under heavy breaking
- over all: better handling
Honestly, I am a bit surprise of how well the 997 does in this test. On the other hand, the Cayman S delivers quite an amazing performance and is about Euro 20k cheaper than the 997
