Then this is for you Gauss, found this also the other day and, as i have said before, the last espirits are timeless classics like my 928.
Hi racerx,
Assuming you know what LOTUS stands for? Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious, I loved 'fifth gear' episode where they trying to do 200mph with the lotus, uuuuhhhhh not as the gear box gave up agan (hi hi)

Better than the 911 - you really do have to be joking...

Don't worry John. I am not going soft in the brain, the 928 still rules above them all BUT, everyone i have read who have driven both cayman and 911 say cayman is the better driver. I have only driven 911's incl. 997, never driven a cayman. The cayman should be better with its mid-engine layout.
I have sat in some cayman's though. I like the cayman interior better and I do think the cayman looks sleeker and more unique. The 911 is still so beetle like. unless you go wide. The 911 is a fun car but it does not have an exotic look and the seating position is like a normal sedan.

The seating position of the Cayman and 911, including relative positions of seat, steering wheel and pedals, are identical.

Neither the black Cayman or the black Lotus are my taste.
As for your statement quoted above racerx, I couldn't disagree more my friend.
While reading the opinions of others (who are expert at reviewing new cars) is obviously very important, there is simply no substitute for trying the car out for oneself before one can form a view. Otherwise it remains a purely theoretical analysis ... a bit like trying to figure out what it must be like to have sex from reading articles written by sex therapists!
Actually drive a Cayman. THEN form your view. You may find it's a revelation and the best thing ever. Heaven forbid, even better than your undoubtedly great 928. OR you might find that it is great but ultimately not challenging enough?
In theory, a 911 should never handle well. The engine is in the back, the power goes to the rear wheels, 62% of the weight is on the rear axle. On paper, it is all wrong. But, after 4 decades of obsessive engineering, it is perfect.

Or, as others have put it, it is a triumph of development over design.
