janus:
Are you sure that's an 5 series?
That front looks very high IMO. alomost like an SUV?

Yes, 100% its new 5 series. Looks higher because kidneys are almost vertical (due to safety reasons) and because of bad resolution - that picture was showed in presentation and someone took it with mobile phone.
Here is (already leaked a few months ago) front bumper:
Ziggy:
It looks very promising. Besides the kidneys seem to form one piece together with the front trunk (bonnet), whereas on the 7-series they are one part with the front bumper. I like the 7-series design but one thing I do not like is the kidneys being part of the bumper. Notice that on the 7-series sketches the kidneys are one with the front trunk. Probably because of manufacturing reasons they had to deviate from the initial design.
From now on all new bimmers will have kidneys attached in front bumper. Otherwise is impossible to achieve good results in pedestrian safety tests. Front ends of cars tend to be plastic and this offers a better
solution for pedestrian safety .
Even new Mercedes E class got front mask attached in bumper and is no longer part of a hood..
Shakal:Thanks. Makes perfect sense.

The most interesting rumor about this car (so far) is that the 2wd versions will be available with the sportdiff from the X6 on the rear axle, according to german AMS.
Which means that it should have enough traction and stability without having to drag a heavy 4wd system around.
A 540i with DCT and sportdiff should be one heck of a car, for a reasonable price.

Great pictures - thanks! This car is very promising. Good size for mix between size and sportiness!
Sorry, this is not 5 series, but a 7 series prototype. I know only that new 5 series will have similar interior to new 7 series, so when I saw article on BMWblog I belived its new 5 series, but insider in BMW told me that this is 7 series... Its fully camouflagued because they are probably testing some components in prototype...
So far, this is still the best interior shot:
Shakal:
Like I said in previous posts, new 5 series will have similar interior like 7 series. Also used materials will be more quality than in current 5 series.
New pictures - interior:
And more coupeish roof line:
If they could get close enough for interior shots, why no EXTERIOR shots?
Unless the mule was disguised in the outgoing 5-Series body shell?
Lars997:
I have seen so many new five camos yet in real and on pictures. But - all of them have this funny rear windows in plastic and with the matt black triangle. Is there something new to expect (maybe now extra separator for the small triangle)?
I don't have that detailed informations, but I will ask that..
Maybe (isn't decided yet) new M5 will have same front as new M6 will have - like M3 sedan got same front as M3 Coupe. Reason for that is for example 520i can have same front as M5, so BMW wants F10 M5 to look more special.
Also new 5 series will get all steel body frame. Trubular structure is made of thinner multi-phase steel, so torsional stiffness is much better compared to all alu frame or alu - steel frame used on current 5 series. This frame will be a little heavier compared to current alu-steel frame, but because other components will be lighter (will be made with alu, magnesium, composite plastics...) , weight won't incrase a lot - it will be similar to E60's weight, despite it will have more features, more cabin space and car will be a little longer. How much weight will incrase depends on engines, for example, F10 540i will be even lighter than E60 540i. Also some small I4 turbo engines will be available in new 5 series.
If this is it, it is a big mistake. They are putting in some X6 truckness into what should be a pure sedan NOT GOOD and i like the X6.
