    Audi R8 V10 - first drive

    http://cars.uk.msn.com/Reviews/article.aspx?cp-documentid=13756805

As fast as a 911 Turbo and just as viable as an everyday steer, the R8 V10 leaves the Porsche standing in the charisma stakes. It's much more than a cut-price Lamborghini Gallardo too, the R8 going its own way by offering the perfect compromise between Porsche's clinical efficiency and the fantasy world of Lamborghini and Ferrari.

Just read all drive impressions links that I posted in R8 V10 video promo thread and watch all videos. My next car for sure.

What kind of resale will you get on your V8?

Will the V10 effectively cost you double what you get back for your V8?  After 2 years with my Carrera this was my experience going up to the Turbo... smiley00092.gif

    Re: Audi R8 V10 - first drive

For full options manual R8 V10 I will trade my manual R8 V8(mild options)  and add about 40% of R8 V10 price. Not ideal trade I know but, my plan is to keep R8 V10 forever. It is a keeper.

For me it is a keeper. Chances for R8 replacment in 2012 are very slim(because of the Porsche VAG ownership)...

If there will be no replacement Audi will produce an end of the line special, perhaps with elements from the GT3 car. That will be something to wait for.

Guys - they just launche the V10, the Spider is ahead within the next 12 months, too.

So - dont talk about "end of line special" Smiley

You don't know 928 owners Smiley

    Re: Audi R8 V10 - first drive

I have a R8 V8 and like it very much.  If the US price of a R8 V10 is $170,000-$180,000 USD as various automobile publications claim, then I would rather get a Lambo LP560 instead because the price difference is not that great at the above price point.  Same engine but tuned higher.

How do they compare on a track?

For daily use, the R8 has some big advantages IMHO.

The R series cars are very accomplished technically and Audi put everything they know into them. I drove the V8 and it was excellent. The V10 can only be even better.

However, they are not as practical for everyday transport as top offerings from Porsche, BMW and Mercedes and on the other hand they don't have the panache and " exotic" charisma to mix with Lambo or Ferrari.

As long as Audi keep production numbers low and the production run realtively short  they will find buyers. If a small number is produced they might even be considered classics in 20 years time.

    Re: Audi R8 V10 - first drive

R8 is a true sportscar and can not be compared with models from BMW or Mercedes. Porsche 997.2 is a competitor but, it seems to me that both 997.2 and R8 can co-exist on the same market segment.

Production number is relatively low-7900 cars till now from start of R8 production. Current demand is not that big since world crisis.

Classics in 20 years? You bet!

    We do not disagree basically.

Many people with this amount of money to spend either don't want an all out sportscar so they go for a strong SL or  M6 and they are happy to cruise fast on the motorway, or they prefer a sportscar with more "name" (and perhaps less substance) like an italian mid-engined car.

This is why IMO the R8 models must remain with limited production in order to find buyers.
