From the owner's handbook I was given with the car, when describing the PSE there is picture of a PSE button next to the Sport Plus button to switch on/off PSE. This button didn't exist on 997.1 with Sport Chrono.
If it is really like this, it means that on 997.2 you will be able to switch on/off the exhaust independently of the Sport Mode. On 997.1 cars with Sport Chrono, the PSE was only operative with Sport mode and above a number of RPM and also it couldn't be switched off independently.
Does anyone have more info?
Production availability 02/2009 and Tequipment 04/2009.

It's not where you're going, it's how you get there that counts
Yep my book is the same, and i hope this is how it will be not just a printing error !!! I have been told that PSE will be available for retro on my car in April.....
Yup, Liquid, you have a great point. The aftermarket exhausts let you do much more (i.e. choose whether you want the whole system or just a cat-back) and can give some real performance gains and weight savings (in addition to the better sound all the time at a fraction of the cost of the PSE). I think both of us are in the same boat, i.e. would have happily installed an aftermarket system if it wasn't for the UAE warranty rules here (as you know I found out first hand in the case of my Boxster!). Frankly I'm not looking forward to conducting a 'pre-flight check' (Sport Mode, PSE on, Manual gear-change, and so on) before I set off every time!
But I think for some the 'convenience' of being able to use the car as a cruiser / GT car with the PSE off when they want it makes a good case for PSE.
Liquid:I agree. Although I still love the PSE on my car, there are much better products with better gains for much less than what you would have to fork out with at Porsche.
Moved back the production of my car to accommodate the PSE release in 02/09. Can't wait to hear what the note sounds like, the standard exhaust is rather sonically challenged. Unfortunately in Dubai, we cannot go aftermarket, some tasty aftermarket kit available out there that might free a few ponies and also weigh less. For you guys with less draconian warranty small print, I would suggest the aftermarket route rather than filling the bulging Porsche coffers.
I dont know about the 997.2 but on my 997.1, the PSE sounds really good with the plug disconnected at the back. Ive also read in a few places that it apparently gives you just under 10 hp (although unconfirmed by Porsche due to legality issues I suppose).
Just ordered the headers and air filter from the X51 kit, hope that gives me a bit more noise and maybe a few ponies too if im lucky.
My friend got his 997.2 about a week ago and I must say it doesnt sound too shabby for a stock exhaust C2S. Its definitely quite a bit louder and sharper than a stock exhausted 997.1 version.

This week will have to go to the dealer to see the cayenne diesel engine, and also start putting pressure for the PSE deliveries....and I'm afraid they wont have any news regarding this.....but well will let you know !!...I am sure in some weeks there are new official photos and official delivery dates!
