    38) Finally, no trip would be complete without some lovely Milka chocolate! Mmmm...

It was a great day trip that got my car's essential servicing done (at a significant saving) but which also combined some pleasant sightseeing in Knokke and in delightful Bruges. One can't ask for more than that! Hope you enjoyed these photos of this mini-trip!

    Cheers,

    Re: 997 C2S: 2nd birthday 10th Nov 08

By the way, I was amazed at the great fuel consumption on this trip. My 997 C2S returned about 34 UK mpg (miles per gallon). Pretty incredible really! I think the total distance was around 325 miles and the cost of fuel was approx £40 - about 3/4 of a tank of fuel.

The other interesting thing is that, at 2 years old and after covering a total mileage of 12281 miles (12285 minus the 4 miles on factory collection), my car has needed a total top up of only 1300 ml of engine oil (just before the engine oil change). So it has used 0.106 ml/mile in its 2 year life so far. In fact, I have not needed to top up with engine oil at all for the last 2185 miles (since 10100 miles). So I have been very happy with this. I am careful never to rev the engine above 2000rpm until after the engine oil temperature has reached 90 degrees Celsius. After that, I enjoy the upper rev range when the road is clear.

As I expected, my brake pads and brake discs are fine - so I didn't need to change those. I have around 4-5 mm of treadwear left on all 4 tyres so I don't think I will need to change those for another year.

All in all, I am very happy with the first 2 years of ownership of this car.

    Re: 997 C2S: 2nd birthday 10th Nov 08

    You're welcome John.

Yes, I do love chocolate - I'm more of a connoisseur of fine chocolate (especially Belgian) - so I don't generally like to eat the less good quality stuff. But sometimes, even Milka will do for a quick sugar rush!

Glad you liked the photos. I was also treating this thread as a 'dry run' to practise how to upload pics on this whizz bang new website. It really did my head in last night. I have decided to wait for Rennteam 2.0 to bed down properly before I tackle the task of posting 1016 photos for my USA trip! I've been writing a commentary in the meantime - it's much more detailed than the commentary I posted in my Europe trip thread. It has far more detailed description and impressions. I'm doing that now before I forget anything. I will then continue enhancing hundreds of pics after that and then, sometime in the future, when I can bring myself to face using this website for a BIG thread - and when it is working in a more user-friendly way - then I will share that USA thread. I know that will be many months after the USA trip - but trust me, it will be really very special and well worth the wait. It will be a complete pictorial story of the journey. Like something Michael Palin would do - just to share with all you guys...

Hi Easy Smiley Bruges (or Brügge for us Germans Smiley) is one of my fav places also - simply beautiful, even more so in the summertime with all the street cafés and restaurants. Maybe a good place for a meeting next Spring/summer - half way for both of us Smiley

Good to hear that you're baby got a perfect preparation for the 2nd birthday.

Hi Porsche-Jeck and Easy   Smiley interesting thread and great pics Smiley - I am also a great fan of Bruges. This Japanese restaurant http://www.tanuki.be/engels/base.htm is a favourite of mine and I would most certainly be delighted and interested in meeting up in the Spring/Summer  as you suggest PJ Smiley I believe 'beltar' is based in Bruges  Smiley Dreamcar may also wish to come along ?

    Re: 997 C2S: 2nd birthday 10th Nov 08

Hi guys - just a couple of things I wanted to add to this thread...

I gave my car a really thorough cleaning yesterday - a real labour of love - and it looks like new again. I think having a clean car makes driving somewhere in it more of an 'event'. But the main thing I find is that it feels much better when I have cleaned it myself rather than if someone else has done it. One has the satisfaction of knowing it is really clean! It's funny - there's something really therapeutic about cleaning one's car. Plus spending hours cleaning it really rejuvenates one's love for the car.

Another thing I have noticed since having the engine oil changed. The engine oil in my car (prior to the oil change) used to warm up faster. Now, it takes longer before the engine oil has reached an operating temperature of 90C. I assume this is normal - it's Mobil 1 0W-40. I assume it's because the previous oil had less viscosity left and had gone thin. Whereas this new engine oil is still hardly used and hardly degraded so it takes longer to warm up. Any thoughts on this?

Cleaning a supercar yourself is almost half the pleasure of owning it! smiley00052.gif

I normally go for some Sat/Sun drives out in the countryside, get home, connect up the hose to the hot tap, and then quickly clean it before I put the car back in the garage.  Then it's like new when I next take it out!

Harder to motivate myself to do though in the winter months for sure - especially the waxing part smiley00057.gif

Don't bother waxing this time of year, wax (certainly Zymol) doesn't bond properly under around 20 deg C.  Smiley

Just right click, save as and then upload the smileys into your next post.

From then on, you can add them to every post using the new attachment handling.

    Re: 997 C2S: 2nd birthday 10th Nov 08

@John H: I've found out why all the OPCs I contacted were charging GBP 2495 for a 2 year extended warranty for a 911 and why OPC West London was charging GBP 2695.

Basically, the latest Porsche Newsletter (that I received in the post yesterday) explains that GBP 2695 is charged when the extended warranty is sold on a 'standalone' basis (i.e. once an existing warranty has already expired and then a subsequent warranty is sold) whereas the price is GBP 2495 if sold on a 'renewal' basis (i.e. where an unexpired warranty is in place and is renewed just before its expiry date - which is what happened in your case and mine).

So OPC West London quoted me the wrong price for the right thing. I paid the correct price of GBP 2495. You were charged GBP 2095 by mistake - however, it's their mistake so you are under no duty to pay a further GBP 400.

I wouldn't pay anybody 400 pence if it is their mistake let alone 400 UK pounds.
