    Not that I know of, but I'm also interested in making that comparison, especially to be able to really compare MK-I and MK-II engines, without the "PDK effect".

    Thanks for your excellant review.
    I am particularly interested in your comments about the sound of the engine. I too have a 997.1 w/ sport exhaust. New 997.2 will not have sport exhaust option until Feb build. Should I wait?
    Also, does your new car have the dynamic corner lights? If yes, is it a worthwhile option.

    I haven't heard the sport exhaust on the new DFI engine but if I were in your place I would order the car now and make a deal with your dealer that since the Sport Exhaust is not available yet that they wil retrofit if to your car when it becomes available without the cost of labour, only the parts, so that you pay the same price more or less as if it came from factory. This way you don't have to wait and also you have a chance to hear it for your self maybe before ordering it.

    As to the cornering lights, I don't know in the 997.2, I din't have it during the night but if its like in the Cayenne MK-II then I would get them though its not an absolute must have with in itself, but since it comes included with bi-xenons option I believe then yes b/c xenons for me is a m ust have.

    Drove a 997Mk2 with PDK yesterday (I know I am a bit late as PDK has been around for quite some time now...).

    I am impressed.

    PDK is an excellent achievement, compared to BMW's DKG (as installed in the M3) PDK is significantly better:

    - No throttle lag, the car demonstrates an immediate throttle response. This is one of my major complaints about the BMW system. In comparison, the M3 with DKG feels very "dull" at slow speeds (inner city driving etc.). In the M3 you need to press the throttle some cms (at least it feels so) to get a "significant" reaction from the car. That is really annoying. You can compare this feel to driving a Diesel car...
    - While throttle response is excellent with PDK (thus, fast take-offs are easy to accomplish ) the 997Mk2 can also be driven very smoothly, the gear changes being incredibly soft. Excellent stuff!
    - Manual shifts are executed instantaneously (as compared to the M3 DKG where manual upshifts take far too long). This is on par (if not better) than Ferrari's F1 gear-box.
    - The shift buttons (steering wheel) are not that bad! Even after 15 minutes you start getting used to them. I like this concept.
    - The speed of shifting is phenomenal: driving in 7th gear, pushing the throttle fully the car changes to 2nd gear without the slightest delay and extremely smoothly. This is superb.

    In summary, PDK is light years away from BMW's DKG in the M3. Also, after driving this Carrera I have to state how refined even this "standard" Porsche is. Excellent job

    Markus, I had exactly the same impressions when I testdrove the 997S PDK a couple of weeks ago, really great car.

    Only thing I didn't like were the buttons. But perhaps I'm used to Ferrari's paddle solution just too much.

     Carlos we thank you  for the time you spent for the driving impressions  and especially for the thorough write up !

    I agree that the rear lights are the weakest point of the facelift . It seems someone at Porsche loves " droopiness". They took it out of the 2002 996 facelift  front lights and have now brought it back to the Cayenne/997.2/987.2 rear clusters .For me, visually , sports car rear lights should be " tight" as if pulled in by the rushing air as it separates out back at great speed . The droop gives the 997.2 rear a stagnant   look as if it is not only standing still, but aging and sagging from an organic perspective .

     This is a photoshop I did back in spring of 2005 Smiley On the top corner the original photo used, and on the bottom some wishful thinking Smiley... but you can see how I would of liked the rear lights to change to, more sleek and speed-like

    I have driven the 'facelift' car several times - a friend owns a new C2.

    I like the speed of shifting, but I would like to echo the sentiments of other people who have posted. I think there are 2 big problems:

    (1) The design makes the car look too homogenous in appearance - especially the new rear tail-light configuration. Both the rear lights, their droopiness, and the whole appearance of the back detracts from the sporty look of the car. They have over-designed it....(if there is such a thing!)

    (2) The so-called shifters on the steering wheel work well, but again, their look and functionality is too 'slick'. I prefer both Ferrari's and Lambo's solutions much better - I want some 'techy' look and feel like a real sports car, not a run of the mill commuter drive.....

    Just my $0.001 -the economy is imploding around us...

    You illlustrations say it all:

     With the drooping lights, which I like, the reflector strip just doesn't work. With your modified lights, the reflector strip looks much more integrated, but it still leaves one wondering: why bother?

    I have the C4S FL in silver and it is the one aspect of its design that I dislike and my wife too. It just seems and looks pointless. Not horrible or terrible but superflous to and disruptive of the overall, near perfect design of the car.

    The fact that Porsche's marketing people are now featuring the C4S in matching red in their ads  - which hides the strip completely - seems to suggest that folks within Porsche don't like the strip either!

    The only thing I realy dislike about me car are the back lights .

    To me, sporty back lights should be small and simple, like on Carlos's photoshop.

    I agree with you guys, the reflector strip brings out more the flaw in the design of the rear lights, it just doesn't flow or coordinate. Somehow I don't think the next generation will have the droopy look... its like the 996 MK-I headlights thing all over again.

    Time cures all... soon everyone will love the rear lights. They first appeared in the Cayenne and I think that the design works.

    I don't like the droopy look either, but it may grow on me, especially if the new mechanicals hold up.   Otherwise the droopy look will represent when Porsche's sales and innovation "sagged".

    I think the front bumper lights don't work either, the Gen 1 was perfect, the way the indicator/lights wrapped round the bumper as they did on the classic 993.  I really don't know what Porsche were thinking with these changes apart from the engineering I much prefer the Gen 1, to look at it's perfect and for £20-30K less than a gen 2 it's enough to stop me buying a gen 2 and wait until the next revision.
