Audi RS6 test by Sport Auto

    0-100km/h: 4.5s

    0-200km/h: 14.2s

    Hockenheim: 1:15,3min

As fast around Hockenheim as much lighter(and less powerfull) C63 and M3.

There you have it: for what do I need a 580hp-heavy-fat-pig like the RS6, if I can have the same or better performance with less weight for less money? Call me a kill-joy, but for me such cars like the RS6 don't fit into our time any longer. Smiley

I agree with you. For example new Cayman S is faster then this RS6 around Hockenheim and it is proper mid engine sportscar that is IMHO fun to drive.

I have same feeling about big SUVs also. What do you need Cayenne or X5/X6 for these days? Big family? For my family needs something like Passat R36 Variant or new S4 Avant(S Tronic) is more then enough... And you can have sportscar a la 997.2, R8 or Cayman S along side R36 or S4. At least IMHO...

Re: Audi RS6 test by Sport Auto

I have to agree about big SUVs.  They are pointless if performance is the criteria.  Having said that we have a X3, because the wife prefers the view out of it compared to say a S4 wagon.  I personally would have bought a R36 wagon instead.

Absolutely agree Smiley These heavy and large cars with huge hp output simply consume a lot of gas...

To illustrate this further: fast Autobahn travels in the GT2 require 11-15 l/100km. A car like the RS6 needs abou 5 l/100km more, is less agile, slower and less fun. Based on my personal opinion a car like the GT2 is also similarly comfortable on long distances as a car like the RS6 (no kidding).

Of course, in heavy winter conditions a AWD limousine is nicer and safer to drive. But as soon as there is no snow the GT2 rules again Smiley

I have two kids and the Cayenne Turbo S is almost too small for longer trips(more than a day or so). My wife alone needs a huge Samsonite full of clothes, shoes, etc..

Another reason is the place we live: Bavaria. We didn't get much snow over the past few years but when we get heavy snow, the Cayenne is a treat driving through snow.

Another example: during our last skiing trip to Katschberg/Austria, it started snowing heavily. Who knows Katschberg knows that the main street has a 23% incline and when it starts snowing, you hardly make it on this street upwards. I barely reached the upper part of the hill after heavy snowing, most cars behind us didn't make it.

Another example from the same spot: the parking lot of the hotel was covered in deep snow, apparently it didn't make much sense to clean it. Several cars, among them an Audi A6 with 4WD, weren't able to exit the parking lot after a night of heavy snowing.

Guess what I did? I raised the air suspension, put in the lower gear and off I went through the deep snow, people were starring and one woman was even applauding after we succeeded to reach the main road.

Yes, I love the Cayenne and I think that the current fuel efficiency discussion is a bit overrated, mainly due to the media we listen to and/or watch each and every day.

Even the dumbest person should realize by now that not SUVs were to blame for high fuel prices but speculation on the oil markets.

Of course I would love to have a lower fuel consumption on my Cayenne Turbo S but I guess it isn't my fault that Porsche built the Cayenne the way they built it.

I have to admit however that without a family, I would NEVER buy or drive a Cayenne, it wouldn't make sense at all to me.

The Audi RS6 is really a car I could see myself in, the almost perfect family car in my  opinion. The price tag however is steep and since the used car value of our Cayenne Turbo S dropped sharply, I doubt it makes sense for me to go for a RS6 right now.

@MKSGR: the 911 is a pretty fuel efficient sports car if you drive it "reasonable".

On the other hand, I can't drive a GT2 as a family car because of the kids.

Even the standard 911 with rear seats is too small for my 8-year old daugther. Smiley

Of course, in your case you need lots of interior space Smiley

BTW, the RS6 is one of the best cars on sale right now. I really like it a lot Smiley
