    Sad decision

SmileySmiley Yesterday, i saw my bank dealer and as you all know the market is really bad and ressession has startet. During this night couldn't sleep cause have to make and take some really sad decisions. But well a car is a car and nothing else.

But the problem is that for me a car is not just a car, and i'm sure that  i'm not the only one feeling like this.

So this morning after seen yesterday the Q5 at my dealer i 75 % took the decision to sell my CT and my Cooper S and get the Q 5 V6 TDI or the 2.0 L T FSI. Only problem i'm coming from a top car to something with less power and etc. Reason has sometimes to come over passion.

I do not yet  know which engine i'll take. The TDI V6 has 240 HP and the 2.0 L T FSI has 211 HP. I'm doing almost 30'000 km / year. My bro says that with a TDI i'll be happy in the begin but then i might be bord, might be true. Smiley Really don't know. I'll be doing next weeks some tries to get an idea.

So if some of you guys has already one in the garage, your experience might help me.

Anyway this is for me really hard decision to make.

    Re: Sad decision

I drive the V6 TDI 2.5L, in an A4 convertible, and I love it. The FSI has a faster reaction time but the V6 is just much smoother and powerful.

Together with the V6, consider the multitronic gearbox. The V6 has only a short range of Revs (from 1500 to about 4000 I think), and with the multitronic gearbox this is just more fun.

    Re: Sad decision

not a good decision to have to take. however, life goes on and things will get back to normal.

are you sure that the hit you will take on resale of your cars is not bigger than to try and sit through these difficult times ? and least you will still be enjoying your cars when all else looks rather grim.

should there be no way out, then i am sure you will be happier with the diesel. especially in a car as the q5.

    good luck.

I agree. Sometimes it is a better decision to sit things out and not to rush into quick decisions.

However: if somebody has to sell the car(s) to get out of a difficult financial situation and/or to ease "tensions", this person should reconsider if he can actually afford such a car. Nobody should be that desperate to have to sell a car to cope with a financial crisis, this means that something went wrong before.

Right now, my business has slowed down further from the past three years and I have to fire one of my key employees, not only because of financial reasons but also for other reasons I can't elaborate here.

Anyway: it would definetely help to find somebody new for my 997 Turbo lease because I have a 5 year lease and only two years have passed. The lease is not very expensive compared to other offers usually offered for this kind of car but it is a substantial amount of money each and every month. So I was thinking about giving the 997 Turbo to somebody else and to get myself a 997 Carrera S with sport suspension/LSD/etc. instead, which would lower my monthly lease payment by around 500 EUR. I decided against it, simply because I would probably regret it sooner or later. I would rather sell our Cayenne Turbo S and get a something less "attention attracting" family car, for example a BMW X3 3.0sd (pretty fast Diesel, almost 300HP Bi-Turbo engine) or even a BMW M3 Limousine because I could get a new one pretty cheap.

To make it short: a car is a luxury object and if selling it can ease the personal financial tension, I would definetely do it. From my experience in the past however, selling a car and buying a new one usually is a loss-loss "business.

Sorry to hear, Cram - but I second intouch1's comment (taking into account the poor resale values). I've no clue about the Swiss market - the Mini Cooper may sell well, but the CT's resale value is a nightmare here in Germany Smiley

As for the Q5 - never drove it myself, but I know the Audi engines from the limousines. I've never been a big fan of Diesel engines (especially not of the raw TDIs), but Audi's newer generation of Diesel engines is not so bad and should suit a work horse like the Q5 quite well - just try both versions and trust your butt-meter.

Just think positive: If you switch to such a car as your daily driver you will appreciate the GT3 even more SmileySmiley

    Re: Sad decision

As a real "driving-enthousiast" i must say that our daily driver (an A5 3.0tdi 9/08) has now 5000km on the counter and i'm really impressed and very pleased with its performance!

The 3.0 is not comparable to the old 2.7 tdi or the 211hp old 3.0 (from A6and A4).

It's a lot smoother, almost sporty sound.

Since the Q5 is based on the sam platform as the A5 it should be nice to drive i presume.

When in lack of power you always can ciptune it to app 300HP.

The A5 is more than quick enough.... Just lost my driverslicence for 2 weeks..

    Re: Sad decision

IMO the Q5 is an excellent car and better than the current X3 or the Freelander. The GLK I don't know

I tried the petrol 2.0 lt with the 7 speed S-tronic and I liked it very much. I was thinking of replacing an older ML with a Q5 but I'll wait to see what the economic climate brings in view of the fact that I am expecting a C2S in December. Two new cars might be too much for a "bad" 2009!

Diesel IMO is only good if you cover heavy mileage and gain significantly from the economy differential. Or if you have to get a certain model and in the given engine size and a good petrol engine is not offered (example BMW 520d better than 520i).

You must be happy you are keeping the GT3.  Most people would be thrilled with "only" a GT3!

    Re: Sad decision

I think a diesel is great in combination with stepless transmission (for the streets that is, not for the race track)

And the Audi V6 does not sound like a diesel at all...

    Re: Sad decision

Well thank you for all your reply and here what come out of all this business thing:

I went first to my P dealer and my Mini dealer. The CT with 95'500 km and year 2005 is on the market for resale 66'500.- swiss frank Smiley Really nothing. And a guy said " good luck to replace a CT on the market today." PJ it joines what you said.

Then my Mini dealer said your cooper S year 2006 with 25'600 km can be resale for 25'500.- swiss frank (already better and i'm sure to sell it cause there is a demand)

Went for a try of the Q5 TDi 3.0 V6, car drive nice and smooth and it's quind of relaxing, maybe to much for me. Big inconvienent was when you want to take over. Really take you long and quind of frustrating for an engine like this. I was excpecting better. So when i come back the Audi dealer said to me go and try the 2.0 T FSI. Really incredible the difference. The gaz respond much faster even it's got only 211 HP and the car behave really well.

So here my conclusion and like i always did with cars: Give to the Q5 some time to get it developped and wait for the facelift, wait for the 3.2 T FSI engine and give yourself another try. Don't ruch and enjoy the pleasure of your CT & the Cooper S.

Analysing and ruching into wrong decisions can really be a punishment and so am happy that i still can think clearly and wait to see how the future will come out. Hopefully for all of us fast so that our passion, needs & pleasure can still be alive.

I'm taking this opportunity to let you know violks that my GT3 will be ready for next thursday. Hope that at Nordschleife weather still nice and dry.SmileySmiley

    Re: Sad decision

There is not only the value of the car. A car of this class costs a lot in running costs (fuel, insurance, tyres...). If you take that into account it's not only about recuperating a part of the money spent on buying it (there might be no recuperation at all if there is a loan on the vehicle which needs to be refunded), but it's also to cut running costs.

Imagine you still are paying 1000€ / month for the car + 1000€ in tax/insurance/fuel/maintenance. If you sell your car, even for a small amount which is just enough to cover the remainder of the loan, from that day on you cut monthly expenses by 2000€! Just to give an example.
