The Porsche effect
Well, today I've been outside washing the car.
I moved into this village some months ago, so I'm a relatively new face. In the time I've been outside...
I have made friends with some local boys who think my car is cool. I had the front luggage compartment open. Seeing the empty space, one asked "Where's the engine? Is it in the back?". "No, it's not there either" I said, and showed them the rear luggage compartment. "So where is it?". I pointed. "Behind the seats". "Wow" they said. "Is it faster than a Ferrari?" I had to smile. "Well, maybe an old one".
Then I've had lots of people waving, and introducing themselves to me, complementing the car. It's quite apparent that when you turn up as a newcomer, a Porsche driver, everyone notices, everyone mentally marks you in their heads as being not your average person, someone special, interesting. You are the guy with the nice Porsche. And by association, I must be a nice guy, and someone that they all want to say hello to and chat to.
Maybe it's just this village. But I never excited people this much when I drove a VW!
