    Pics of the new leds

Posting might help start and get used to this new forum.

    Here are the new leds.

In the first pic you see the ' line' that comes on when you put the lights on.

In the second pic you see the leds that are on when the lights are switched off..for daylight ( you can not turn them off....)

Re: Pics of the new leds

Was really surprised how bright these were when followed by Clewsey at the weekend - almost too bright in my review mirror (not dazzling, just distracting) on a grey UK morning.

Re: Pics of the new leds

I, too, think they are a bit on the bright side.  At night,--just a bit irritating.

    Why no "off" switch?

I don;t understand why you would want these things on at all. If you have low light then turn side lights and the rear lights on, but just having the LED's on in poor light is stupid. And in bright light even more stupid. Why would I want my 911 to look like some show-off's rice-burner?

    Gnil,

You can turn them off - in the PCM trip menu - one of the sub menu options - where you set locks etc there is an option to turn the LEDs off!!!

In the picture, you have the lights off, so how does that reconcile with your statement that this is what it looks like with the lights on.

By 'lights', I mean the headlights.  Are you talking about foglights here?

Sorry, made a mistake. The lights that are on all the time are the top ones.

The EU has put a new law in. Since 2011 all new cars will have to drive with daylights on, and they will be leds . It is for supposed security reasons. The car does stand out more, that' s true, but..... I think they are taking all the safety business way too far !!!!!!!!!! Smiley

Sorry, the lights that are on all the time are the ones at the top.

The ones witht he thin line are the ones that come on when you turn the lights on to what ever position. There are no more fog lights.

The leds come on without the back lights on.

The thin line comes on when you turn the lights on the first position ( sorry I do not know the name in english) and stay on when the headlights are on.

I can't !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Smiley I tried after I saw your post . ( My dealer has told me on pick up that I could not switch them off)

In the booklet it explains how to do it, but when I went into the PCM, I do not have the option to do that Smiley

I wonder if it is because there is the new EU regulation comming in  ???

You can turn the day light running lights off - very easy, just follow through on the stem control the options and you will come across the setting to turn the lights off. Let me know if you need more precise instructions.

Maybe your OPC can change the country code to another country through the diagnostic console and see if  the OFF function is enabled.

On the point, lots of Audis drive with the LEDs on and I can tell you that even in strong ambient light they are more visible than normal cars. To me it is a bit of bad taste, but for safety they are effective.

Porsche's thin line is more discrete than Audi's large curvy LEDs that look more suitable for a night club entrance!

    I do notice the Audi's !!

On the Porsche it is not the thin line that stays on, it' s the leds ( the tbottom pic shows how it looks like)

    Re: Why no "off" switch?

I'm sure we have all been in a situation where an oncoming car , esp silver or grey , was " invisible " to your peripheral /darting vision as you got ready to turn in front of them or in a tree darkened lane in the middle of the day where a car suddenly appeared  " out of nowhere " from the shadows .

Now imagine the typical innattentive /distracted "other " driver and you are in a 911. I prefer daytime lights to at least give me a chance to be seen in their periph vision before they drive right into me.

    Stupid is as stupid does

The point is I keep coming across f*ckwits who have DRL's and drive on them in the dark. They are too stupid to realize that they are only visible from the front and not from the back. And don;t let's get started on Lexus drivers who because the instrument cluster lights up think they don't need to bother putting ANY lights on at all after dark. I'm sorry for the rant but why are American drivers so stupid?

Thanks for the pics. I clarifies the way they look in both modes. I was wondering how they would be distinguished.

I managed. I went through the onboard computer and could change the setting this way, but through the PCM it was not possible

Re: Pics of the new leds

that´s not very smart! Right now only bikes have to use daytime lights and there´s a reason for that !

If cars see them better well have less accidents, now with all roads users having daytime lights the difference is lost.

Plus i don´t see this helping car drivers at all :s

    Re: Why no "off" switch?

GNil, do you have Sports Chrono Plus in your car?   Cars w/o SCP cannot change the default, and the only way to do that is what you have done already!
