I had Sport Exhaust on my 996 and noticed it got quiet at about 24 MPH and came back to roar at around 42 MPH (Sport Exhaust wasn't available when I ordered my '06 in June of '05). My understanding is that Swiss noise regulations are pretty strict and so the quieting down was necessary to make it a "world" option. Can any of our Swiss brothers speak to this?

That is what they say... Swiss noise regulations forced the cut-off. Now, I am not Swiss, but man do they love rules and regulations here... so it would not surprise me if it is true 
Then again, I have the mod done and whenever I see a police car I go extra hard on the throttle to make them enjoy that growl

I was told that there was some guy driving through Zurich's nicest areas with the engine screaming, that caused some other gentleman to make some phone calls. The result was/is the cut-off. Don't know whether it's a legend or actually true though.
BTW, there are just some "nberry-kind-of-guys"
that love these rules and regulations. The majority hates them like everywhere else.

..The german part of Switzerland loves annoying rules....the french part just stupidly followes... remember the dying tries to bring speed down to 80/120 Forum
