997S PCCB if fit 997 TT

i wonder if my 997S PCCB brakes can put onto 997 TT instead of ordering the 380mm PCCB. Could save some bucks!

    thks

We don't know that yet, but the question is WHY? The standard steel brake is already as big as the 997 PCCBs, so the difference would be negligible IMO. Probably would just need to change the rotors and pads.

Re: 997S PCCB if fit 997 TT

Actually, I thought the PCCB brakes were 380 mm whereas the standard front rotors are only 355 mm?

    Not possible.

Not that easy, I'm afraid. And the PCCB isn't about shorter braking distance but other things like linear brake modulation, unsprung weight, etc..

PCCB for 997 Carrera models: 350 mm front and rear.
PCCB for 997 Turbo and GT3: 380 mm front and 350 mm rear (one reason why it costs more)

Are you sure the GT3 get 380mm up front? The catalog pics seems to indicate they're 350mm all around for the GT3.

RC, I know that. Bigger brakes are there for heat dissipation, since the tyres are the limiting factor anyway. A good, big steel brake won't just fade like that, especially with good cooling.

Conventional brakes, regardless of their size, will never be able to take the abuse that Creamics can. Period...end of story.

That's true. But is the added bit of performance really worth the price of adapting a brake system from another car and going through all the hassle, instead of just buying a bigger brake (380 mm PCCB) and paying extra for it?

    At $9000, it's worth it.

    Yes, that's what I meant.
Why install a PCCB brake from ANOTHER model and go through all the hassle, when the difference wouldn't be as big as if you bought the 380 mm PCCB, specially designed for the car? Basically, I'd say either keep the standard brakes, get the 380 mm PCCB, but DON'T buy the Carrera S PCCBs.

No, you misunderstood. He already has PCCB on a 997S and want to switch those to the a 997 turbo, if he decides to get one. In that case he would save $9000, because, that's the price for optional PCCB on the new turbo.

Re: 997S PCCB if fit 997 TT

That sounds a bit like ghetto tuning to me
The engineers spent a lot of hours on the braking sistem, messing with it is quite an irresponsible thing to do, imho.
I bet the stock turbo brakes will be ten times better than the PCCBs taken from a very different car.

And the difference will be far less than 9000$. If you take into consideration the 997's PCCB price and the cost for all those hours spent modifying, installing and fitting them to a Turbo, it all adds up to more than 9k. Is it worth crippling an essential component of the car?

I guess in that case he could just swap rotors and pads. I wouldn't do it (the 380 mm rotors are there for a reason), but I don't see why it couldn't be done.

Re: 997S PCCB if fit 997 TT

    thks guys!

but fyi the cost of the PCCB for tt is almost USD$20,000 due to the import tax of the options.

For that price, I would definitely look into it. If it fits, I would'nt hesitate for a second.

Re: 997S PCCB if fit 997 TT

Sorry, I should have made myself a bit clearer. I meant that I thought the standard steel brake rotors were 350 mm in front and rear on the 997TT and 380/350 mm on PCCB brakes. I didn't know that the PCCB brake rotors were different sizes on the 997S vs the 997TT.

Re: 997S PCCB if fit 997 TT

one of the risk of doing this is you could possibly have some problems with your ABS and stability control systems

Very likely, in fact, and you would be very much on your own with that problem because it would have been "self-inflicted".

Re: 997S PCCB if fit 997 TT

The REAL issue is that Porsche is making the PCCBs an option on the 997TT,--which is a shame. They should be standard, like on the 996TT version.

    PCCB's were standard only on the 996Turbo S .

Re: 997S PCCB if fit 997 TT

    hi guys,

The standard 997 tt brakes front 350mm and the 997S PCCB 350mm as well. beside, weigh approximately 50% less than the ones regularly used.

Should give it a try, yes? no? anyone?

Yes, you should do it. Not only is the rotor the same size, but, the calipers on your 997S have six pistons up front and four pistons in the back just like the standard steel brakes on the 997tt. I'm almost certain they are exactly the same, with different color paint.

They should be totally interchangeable with out any mods.

One problem can be different "hat" height of the rotors.

Re: 997S PCCB if fit 997 TT

...or hat and caliper mounting bracket offset variances

Re: 997S PCCB if fit 997 TT

    thks guys!

my 997 TT will be blk/blk estimate arrival in mid july.

cant wait to shoot some nice pics!!

Re: 997S PCCB if fit 997 TT

I believe that the PCCB for the 997S is 350 mm up front and is 380 mm up front on the 997TT. Both are 350 mm in the rears though.
