Agreed. If the C55 gets the new 5.5L motor the CLK55 will have the same upgrade as well. But given the cost of certifying two V8 motors in short order, I see the old 5.5L motor as having passed its prime. If the 3.5L motor and most other version of the DI gas motor are ready for production, why install the old 3 valve motor when the 4 valve motor will be introduced in a mater of months?
Both the C32 and CLK55 are in need of an upgrade. The supercharged motor of the C32 suffers from terrible "heat soaking" when driven on a semi-warm day. Any ambient temperatures above 80 degrees F and the car becomes seemingly slow. The 5.5L quad cam motor would solve this heat soaking issue in one form or another. As for the CLK55, it needs more power or the C55 will completely outshine it on the autobahn being that the current C32 is about equal in acceleration. Could AMG let a 55k C-Class trump its own 75k sport coupe?
Now for my next question.... Has MB/AMG solved the chassis dynamics issues seen in the C32? If the understeer and terrible grip levels have not been addressed, MB might as well let the competition take its business. After speaking to many C32 owners, we all agree that the C32's largest flaw is the fact that a 330i sport can pull away from a C32 on a tight twisting road. I hope the non-supercharged motor (lower center of gravity) has reduced the nose heavy nature of the W203 AMG. Only time will tell!
I feel good things are to come from AMG.
