    Should i wait new gearbox or order now?

    hi ppl,

    Just received the information from Hong Kong porsche today i can order the 997 TT colour and the production will start earliest May. Should i wait for the new rumor gearbox? or the existing Tiptronic? i own a 997S now therefore, i hope u guys can help me out.

    No definite dates on the new gearbox at the moment - I would just get the tiptronic!

    The PDK (Porsche's version of the DSG) has been rumoured to be in development for some years now. Each time a new model has been announced (certainly while I have been following this since 2004), journalists have been quick to state that a new PDK is in the pipeline. However, officially there is never anything to confirm this.

    The only piece of evidence I have seen is when RC quite recently posted a scaled diagram of a PDK part. Nothing further came of it.

    The issue with DSG/PDK has always been that the DSG type gearbox can only handle a certain amount of torque. To my knowledge, the only car with prodigious power and torque which will come with DSG is the new Bugatti Veyron. How costly that gearbox is to produce is anybody's guess.

    The best case scenario is that Porsche is secretly developing it but it is only a question of bringing the cost down. The worst case scenario is that there is a technical problem preventing its launch.

    In short, you could be waiting for a few months or many years. Nobody outside Porsche really knows the truth!

    Wow what a delima. If there is no word on when the PDK will be out I would go with the Tip. I would really go with the manual but I guess that is not part of the question. Good luck and congrads on getting a 997TT.

    Hi guys,

    in such case, it darn hard to make up my mind...if i confirm within this week or so, my tt will arrive in the first shipment prob say Oct i guess.

    It's hardly worth waiting around for something which is unlikely to happen - go for the Turbo now while you can, you'll regret it if you don't.

    just talk to prosche experts.....said the new gear box wont release the next couple years....specailly the PDK/DSG is unable to handle over 300hps engines.

    Anyway, god knows what will happen....i guess i will just go for te TIP.

    the tip is actually faster than the manual for the 997tt... but personally I don't like the disconnected feeling you get from driving autos or semi-autos. I'd choose a manual because I love using the engine, clutch, brakes and gearing to control the cars acceleration and deceleration, but it would be down to what you prefer.

    Not true... just found that a 7-speed "DSG" is available commercially from ZF which is good for 500Nm. It is good for FR, RR, or MR application as long as it is longitudinally positioned. It is called "7DCT50", "7" for gears, "DCT" for double-clutch-transmission" and "50" for 500Nm it is permitted to handle. Permissible engine speed is 9,000rpm. However, the hydraulic pump is engine driven and will take up to 10% of engine output.
