    Is it just me or is PSE getting louder?

    Hey guys,

    I've been driving the Carrera around a lot lately, and I've noticed that the PSE sounds a lot louder than it used to. Or maybe it's just a figment of my imagination? Anyone else noticed this? By the way, I have that PSE on all the time "mod" on the car.

    Louder in a good way? I ask because my stock S system sometimes gets on my nerves when I've a long drive at the end of a tough day. (starts to sound louder and raspy to me)

    I don't notice anything obvious and I've had mine for almost a year now. Still sounds good.

    MMD, definitely don't get the PSE. It will sound too loud for you. Or maybe get it, but don't do the "always on" mod. Still, I don't think you will like it if the standard exhaust bothers you.

    As your CAT starts to burn off more during your Use, the system becomes more free flow and the sound Will get louder. But it will stabilized after a while.

    The more you thrash it the louder it gets

    After my run to the factory and back from the Uk the motor was smoother and the PSE distictly louder. If standard is too much then definitely don't get it!

    Mike, I think mine has gotten a bit louder as well too

    I don't have PSE on my car but my TUBI exhaust seems to be louder as well, and of course, i like it

    Yeah, the PSE has a away of sneeking up on you like that.

    I think mine has gotten louder as well. I think RC might've mentioned that this might happen...

    I don't have the pse yet but I've noticed my car (Base 997) sound has gotten significantly louder since I got her up in the 8000 km range. I've also had it up around 215-220kmph and it seemed like after that it started to get louder - almost like the thing just burned in. I love it

    Acoustically it makes sense that it would change and probably get louder and more interesting as the valves, pistons, etc. breaks in and air flow becomes more efficient (even the soot deposits, internally, might have an effect on it).

    I have a PSE on a 997 4S I have 2500kms on the vehicle now, and there is no doubt that it is getting louder. I dont mind the sound though. I also did the always-on-mod.

    Any positive impact on power with more efficient airflow?

    Makes sense, maybe a couple HP gained?

    Road & Track Magazine tested a Carrera S Coupe with 3,000+ miles which did 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds. This is 0.6 seconds quicker than Porsche claims for the car. After confirming results, R&T was suspicious of the car not being production spec. and had it measured on a dyno. It was within Porsche specs and they surmised that it was the first 997 that they had tested with break in miles completed. Porsches with mileage produce more power than new ones and they become slightly louder as the exhausts burn in.

    According to Porsche:

    Cayman S with 295 BHP 0-60 in 5.1 $65,000
    Carrera with 325 BHP 0-60 in 4.8 $72,000
    Carrera S 355 BHP 0-60 in 4.6 $82,000
    Carrera S X50 381 BHP 0-60 in 4.4 $105,000
    Turbo Coupe 480 BHP 0-60 in 3.7 $125,000

    Hmmm...almost seems to convenient. Like maybe a marketing guy set the prices and the appropriate performance claims.
