    Screening of UK purchasers

Porsche centres in the UK are now officially taking orders for the 997 turbo. To prevent any speculators ordering cars, there is quite a strict screening procedure that you have to go through. You have to fill in a form titled "Customer Qualification 911 (type 997) Turbo", which asks you to list all previous Porsche cars owned and for what period, as well as any competitors cars that you have had/still own. The form then has to be signed off by the dealer principal of the Porsche centre and then gets sent for the approval of a Porsche regional manager. Once approved, you have to pay a Pounds10k deposit by the 28th Feb to get a build slot. The first deliveries will be on the 24th June. I believe the list price of the car is Pounds96,850.

    Re: Screening of UK purchasers

And another Pounds15k on speccing I have been told

Thanks for the information. Our UK users will surely appreciate it.

We said it before: Porsche actually "selects" first 997 Turbo customers, not only because demand is extremely high but also because they want to avoid massive speculation/asking premiums with the 997 Turbo.
And of course production numbers will be pretty limited in the first year of production, especially from end of June (official introduction in Europe) til the summer vacation factory shutdown around mid/end of July.

So hush hush to your dealers, guys...but I'm afraid it is almost too late if you haven't been on a "list".

And yes, although the 997 Turbo comes with full leather, bi-xenons, BOSE and some other goodies as standard options, there is still a lot of money to spend on options (PCCB, etc.).

ATTENTION!!!: Don't forget to order the chrono sport package because ONLY with this package comes the overboost feature which adds a little bit more torque/juice at full throttle.

Spending that much money on a 997TT and not ordering the sport chrono (this time w/ overboost) would be pretty stupid.

    Re: Screening of UK purchasers

    atlantis,have you ordered 997turbo?and paid Pounds10000 deposit?..

    Wow 168,935.71 USD

Wow I hope that is not the US list price! The Pound to US dollar conversion has that at 168,935.71 USD. That car would have to have Every option order-able to justify that price

No way the base price is going to be that high. My guess is $125K - $130K.

UK prices are always much higher partly because VAT tax is included.

    Re: Wow 168,935.71 USD

letters are coming out from my dealer this week to the first on the lists. Cant wait :-)

No, it's out of my price range at the moment. Will probably end up getting a 997C2S next

    Re: Screening of UK purchasers

I've just spoken with my dealer and he hasn't had any notification from Porsche and so can't take any orders yet !!

I never understand why different dealers seem to give different information ?

    Re: Screening of UK purchasers

I just spoke to my dealer and he confirms that there's offical news on Monday but said that GBP10k deposit is required probably by end of Feb for a turbo if you want one of the first batch. Apparently the order list is now formally open. He also confirmed it goes through the regional manager to be vetted. Apparently the GT3 is coming about the same time and there's more info on that soon as well. (perhaps Monday?)

    Re: Screening of UK purchasers

So is there a UK order guide. Or are they just approving buyers and taking deposits. If there is an order guide and someone has seen it i am sure the rest of us would love to see it as weel.

    Re: Screening of UK purchasers

Well from what I was told I think that they are screening and taking deposits but expecting release of some official
guide material very soon (this week) on GT3 and TT.

    Re: Screening of UK purchasers

Jesus! Screening process to buy a car!?! It's not like vetting people to adopt children you know...

Still it'll be interesting how the 997 TT will fare as the price after options will push it above a Pounds100k.

    Re: Screening of UK purchasers

"" Screening "" ,, just cut the BS and show them the size of yu packet..

    throt..

Since only a few cars will be available in the beginning, Porsche just wants to make sure they go to enthusiasts and people who are really interested DRIVING these cars, not using them as an object for speculations and making an additional buck or two.

I think that this "screening" not only makes sure that nobody is getting ripped of by being charged a premium, I also think that the first cars deserve to go to people who appreciate to get one of those. The only sad thing is that not everybody who is an enthusiast and has the money will get one in the beginning but this is life, right?!

    Re: Screening of UK purchasers

Just recieved the info letter from my local dealer(Mid-Sussex). The price for the car is Pounds97,840. Deposit of Pounds10000 taken from Tuesday 28th of Feb. Another Pounds5000 when speccing the car. They are going on sale in UK from 24 June 2006.

    Re: Screening of UK purchasers

And they say about 1 per month so I have to put 10k down now and wait a year and hope it comes sooner. Hmm.

Is this for manual or tip? I am a big Porsche nut, but things are getting silly when you have to put more down for a 997TT (which I will do) than for a F430

    Re: Screening of UK purchasers

Yeah anything more than 5k is a little to much!

right. but it's not pure idealism. porsche dealers are interested that their clients keep the cars, buy some tequipment, bring them in for service etc.

the questionnaire reminds me on the thing i got from ford after i applied for the GT some time ago. some questions have been quite tricky -- at least my history with ford cars or why i like the brand ... i failed to qualify

Just called them as the letter didn't give it away. The sales guy said roughly about Pounds2000 more for tiptronic.
