I mean, it's the same for options like Sound package, Navigation, etc.
The hardcore choice will be probably be the RS version.

Theres no excuse for a choice cock up across this 997 range thats for sure , or maybe more is worse..

Makes perfect marketing sense.
997S/turbo: once per year on the track to see what you can do
turbo with tip: can take the SL amg, M5/6 and Z06 for drag racing in the US
GT3: occasional track car, great to drive hard on the street
GT3 RS: mostly a track car that you can take on the street
GT3 RSR or cup: track only.

Yes, the new GT3 is what the 997S should have been (without the aerokit). Nice 415hp dry sump motor and everyday drivability. It should cost $80k like the 997S instead of $106k though.
The new GT3RS should be the GT3 and there should be a new GT3RS made from whatever would be the RSR (real track suspension and composite body and windows)...

I have a similar view, except that I feel that maybe the 997S should be a healthy middle ground between the two, so not to alienate many of the buyers.

actually this is exactly what i thought of when i started the thread gt3 as alternative to the turbo. with PCM, sunroof and cruisecontrol this car becomes more of a daily driver than the old gt3. add in some cruise mode for the PASM suspension and an autobox (which the PDK will be as well) and this car really gets more appealing to a broader audience . well done Porsche, for once i like their model adjustments!
