    Nurburgring Lap Times

I thought it might be nice to have a place where we can post this sort of information and be able to find it easily in one place. It might also help to have it all out in the open and maybe identify some bad info that's circulating - I'm always wondering where these numbers really come from.

So for instance, does anyone have an "official" lap time for the 320 hp 996 C2 and the 996C4S?

    Re: Nurburgring Lap Times

320HP 996C2 did 8:17 in the Sport Auto supertest, I don't believe there is an official lap time for the 320HP version.

320Hp 996C4S has no Sport Auto times but factory reported times were 8:17.

    Re: Nurburgring Lap Times

Check out www.track-challenge.com , a very nice "collection" of SPORT AUTO track times, even if the authors of this great site fail to mention it.

    Re: Nurburgring Lap Times

    RC,

Did I read it correctly? The 997S was only .3 seconds faster around the Hockenheim track than a 997?

    Re: Nurburgring Lap Times

    Yes, it was.
But, with -20mm/LSD option time for 997S coupe(PCCB) is 1.14,3min and 997S with -20mm/LSD,PCCB and X51 is even faster- 1.13,7min! These times were achived with normal Michelin tyres.
BTW, these times are by Sport Auto and driver was Horst von Saurma...

    Branimir,
Out of curiosity, do you know what time the 997S/ powerkit/ PCCB/ sport chassis posted at the Nordschleife?
    Thanks.

    Re: Nurburgring Lap Times

Fanch, your car(and mine soon!) is a real blast!
As you know in Sport Auto supertest v.Saurma achived 8.05 on Nordchleife... Not bad time at all but, I feel he could go faster... Sport Auto did not yet test X51(-20mm/LSD,PCCB) car on the Nordschleife. But, I have some very positive rumor(BUT; THIS IS ONLY A RUMOR, even it comes form very good source!) for you-7.59 for X51/-20mm/LSD/PCCB car! With Pirelli Corsa semi-slicks time could be even faster(around 3-4seconds)...

    Impressive indeed!!!

Re P Zero Corsa (or Sport pilot Cup), I have been STRONGLY advised NOT to put them on my 997 as the engine's lubrication system is not dry sump.

High lateral forces generated by the semi click could starve the engine from oil and result if severe damage.

P Zero Rosso (or Sport pilot) will do then! Better for the road anyway!

    Re: Nurburgring Lap Times

Fanch, I get the same advice as you regarding semi-slicks for tracking... Apparently car has such potential in curves with semi-slicks that engine could be without oil in one side! Too much lateral Gs! Regarding tyres... Your opinion on Pirellis? Will you use Michelins next?
Sorry guys for different subject from original thread...

I'm no pro but after two track days, I love the Pirellis.
I've been told by pros that both tyres are really equivalent.
The Pirellis are slightly better for the track but the Michelin have less road noise on the road, hence more comfortable for GT use and also perform marginally better on the wet.

    Your call!

The Pirelli is ok on wet roads. The Michelin is dangerous on the wet. On the dry, both are of course great, with the Michelin being maybe a bit better.

    Re: Nurburgring Lap Times

THanks guys. Very helpful - especially that website RC.

Basically, it seems to me that there's very little reasonable evidence supporting all these 'ring times that get quoted on sites like this. It would be interesting if manufacturer's started quoting laptimes on different tracks in addition to 0-60 and some of the other limited quantitative data that the consumer currently gets.

    Pierre, one question:

    How many kilometers?

    Re: Nurburgring Lap Times

Silver Bullet-these Nordschleife times are achived mostly by Horst von Saurma from german Sport Auto magazine. Sport Auto(and AMS and english EVO) is one of the only magazines in Europe which have so-called Super test. I think RC will better explaine to you why we all consider Sport Auto result and times very important ones...
BTW, Sport Auto is my favorite car magazine.

Sport Auto mentioned that it was incredibly hot on the day they tested the 997 Carrera S in Hockenheim, Asphalt temperature was 41*C as far as I remember, air temperature around 36 or 37*C. So it may have been a few fractions of a second faster at "normal" temperatures.

The Kleiner Ring Hockenheim is a pretty "tight" track where horsepower doesn't really matter. And there is no doubt, the 997 (non-S) is a pretty fast car.

As far as I heard, the powerkit provides a 2 second advantage on the Nordschleife. Since HvS did 8:05 (as far as I remember) without powerkit, 8:03 with powerkit should be possible.

And factory's official time with WR with 997S is 7min59 so that puts the powerkit version at 7min57
    Good stuff!
Pretty irrelevant with regards to my driving abilities but it's nice to know!

    Thanks RC.

    Ferdie, my guess is 233,500 km + 3000 km / - 0 km.

Want to take out bets on it?

    You replied too quickly, Pierre.

You should have waited until I'd set up a bet with Ferdie.

He obviously hasn't read the the thread from the top.

    one of a kind!

i wonder if this would have been possible with a 360 modena?

    Re: Nurburgring Lap Times

I'd say it would. But so many parts would have to be replaced you could basically claim you've got a second or a third car.
