    Valentine 1

    Any other questions?

    Valentine 1

There's even a day for it, it's that good of a radar detector

    Re: Radar Detectors

Another vote for the V1. There might be a few other choices, but you can't go wrong with the V1. It works, it is built like a tank, and has great support.

Only drawback is the the upgrades are not cheap.

Therya go, W8MM, a new idea for your advertising campaigns delivered free, courtesy of rennteam.com!

Well, maybe a small fee sent in ajcastaneda's direction would not be out of place.

Pity he came up with that quote just a little too late to use it this year.

Whilst on the subject, do you see a boost of retail sales in the period leading up to February 14? You know: "A Valentine for my Valentine on Valentine's Day". Just a thought I had.

Nice! I gotta suggest that to my future ex-wife.

    Future ex-wife?!

In that case, you're going to have to hold up your plans for a whole year if you really want that radar detector.

I've got one, but I hate moving it from car to car. Besides, I'm not gonna divorce her NOW, I'll marry her first

Maybe we could negotiate a Rennteam.com discount?

Only on things that concern my mental well-being

    Re: Radar Detectors

I've been reading a lot of reports lately that the Valentine 1 isn't all that big of a deal anymore--I even saw it from sites that weren't trying to hock radar detectors at you. Granted I can't say how "independant" the testing really was, but who knows...

There are some top performers from Escort and Bel that are getting rave reviews right now apparently, and they're also upgradeable like the Valentine units. Who knows.

Don't buy into it. If you've been to radartest.com, that's Carl Fors. These manufacturers hire several "experts" to do their dirty work. Valentine is still the best and only truly upgradable detector.

    Re: Radar Detectors

    Good to know.

    Re: Radar Detectors

    A correction:

Not Carl Fors, but Craig Peterson. Carl Fors owns SML.

    Re: Radar Detectors

VALENTINE ONE!!!! I have had Valentine one since the first model came out. It is the best by far.

    Re: Radar Detectors

Get the remote Passport SR-1. Elegant and discreet remote installation that looks factory in every respect. Includes laser (LIDAR) deflecting. It's expensive but not as much as listed in the Escort site. I paid a little over $1,300 including installation at Al & Eds in Southern California. I have a place in Palm Springs and regularly do triple digits on the 10 and 111 freeways. Have to laugh every time the laser detector/deflector goes off. Haven't gotten a ticket since I bought the unit 10 months ago so I guess it works. The Escort web: Click Here

    Re: Radar Detectors

is it one of those that turns off when detects a signal?

    Re: Radar Detectors

There's a little button on the dash. When you click the button twice the LIDAR deflector stops for I think 30 seconds. You do this to avoid suspicion because the deflector causes the LIDAR speed gun to display an error code. On the 2nd try from the LIDAR gun I will have slowed down and my deflector will be temporarily off.

    Re: Radar Detectors

The Escort laser shifter set-up is inferior to the Lidatek system.

    www.lidatek.com

Also for more information, there is a huge thread on the 997 Board about the best set-up ... it usually was Valentine One with Lidatek...

Also see attached picture for what you can do with a Valentine, I haven't seen any Escort unit installed this discretely...

    Re: Radar Detectors

The Lidatek unit looks pretty crude in comparison. Also, not sure I'd want to replace the unique 987 rear view mirror with that Valentine unit. The SR-1 is fully integrated with a unfified Radar/LIDAR interface that sits neatly in the shelf under the stereo. It includes two front and one rear LIDAR detector/deflector unit AND a front radar detector unit. This thing looks and works great and I feel its worth every penny. Here's a few pics for your viewing pleasure.

    Rear Deflector

    Re: Radar Detectors

One of the two front deflectors

    Re: Radar Detectors

    Front Radar Detector

    Re: Radar Detectors

LIDAR defeat button on dash. Very neat and tidy

    Re: Radar Detectors

Oops, just noticed my system is called the Escort SR-7. I think the SR-1 may be a much older one.
