    Question : Warm up time

    According to the temperature Gauge both engine temp and oil temp ( what is the best both for the engine and for driving ) to start driving ( from a cold engine ) after idling , without if possible considering outside temp.
    My 997S is garaged all the time and I live in sunny Southern California ( for reference ), Thanks for the input .

    You have posed an intersting question that ultimately touches upon the thermodynamic distribution plan for the engine,--what portion is cooled with engine oil vice EGW. I'd like to hear if anyone has technical insight into this, as well.

    From the owners manual:


    When starting the engine, be ready to drive immediately.
    Drive vehicle at moderate speeds and avoid engine speeds above 4,200 rpm during the first 5 minutes.
    Do not let the engine idle to warm up

    Guess you missed that part when you read the manual

    No need to warm up at idle for modern cars.

    The great thing about 997's is that you now get an oil temperature gauge so you don't have to guess when it's ready for you to push on a bit. It was always a bit of a guessing game in the 996. It's too much of a rarity on modern cars.
