    Boxster S Ordered - March Build!

    I'm usually just a lurker here who enjoys the witty banter and excellent Porsche/Boxster info that is shared with the group. Today, however, I had to post and share the excitement of placing a special order for a new 2006 Boxster S. I've had several Porsches over that past few years, always settling for what the only dealership in town had in stock. I decided to finally get exactly what I wanted, rather that what was available. Adding to the sweet pleasure, I was incredibly surprised to learn that my dealer was able to obtain a March build date. I expect delivery to Anchorage in early May, just in time for our roads to be decent. I can't wait! Here are the specs:

    I enjoyed the recent white Boxster photos thread and hope there will be others with similar combinations for me to eyeball as I not so patiently wait for a couple months. Sorry for the long post, but I had to share!

    Congratulations! an unusual and nicely individual specification. I've not heard of anyone ordering a Boxster with the Sycamore wood trim - the pictures you are now obliged to post when you get your car will be worth seeing.

    Now for the worst bit - the wait!

    Anchorage? Wow. Last place I'd expect to find a roadster.

    Great spec though!

    I'd be happy to share some photos when it arrives from the Motherland. My thought on the sycamore trim (some will disapprove, I'm sure) was that it reminded me of some of the roadsters from the past. Paired with the "old leather bomber jacket" look of the cocoa leather, I'm hoping for a retro/classic look and feel.

    As far as having a roadster in Anchorage, I admit that our road conditions are not fantastic. Although we do have a few roads that seem to have been built with a Porsche in mind, and the scenery always seems to make up for the lousy roads. For that reason, I stuck with the 18" wheels and PASM for the new Boxster. This combination on my Cayenne Turbo worked well in our environment.

    Anyone have thoughts on the 18" Cayman S wheels on my configuration? The look of the Boxster S wheels is the only part of the order I'm not wild about. The dealer was unable to obtain that combination from the factory, so I'm considering a swap with wheelenhancement.com. Your comments would be much appreciated.

    Check the the instrument surround in leather is really what you want - you know it's just the bit between the dials, don't you?

    Really brave combination, and I am itching to see the photos already!! Of course you'll have to get us some beautiful SteveR quality photography of you and your box in the local scenery!

    Also, have you considered rear centre console in leather? Without it, you might spoil your leather-clad retro look with some nasty plastic between the seats. (Or is that included in the Preferred Package Plus?)

    I'm not sure if the Cayman S wheels will be available in your location, but I believe it's possible here in the UK, so there's a good sign.

    Definitely a nice individual spec. The only thing I don't quite understand is how you can live without heated seats in Anchorage?

    Just looked - Preferred package plus includes bi-xenons, rain sensors and auto-dim mirrors, Bose, Wheel Centres, Floor mats, Power seats, CD changer.... and heated seats.

    That's a well stacked baby! You MUST get the rear-centre console in leather, and also sun-visors! And and and.... erm.... I have to admit, I prefer the sports steering wheel, but I guess you can't get that in sycamore!
    Does the Bose in the Pack not come with the windstop?

    Aaah, the joys of going through the spec list - how I miss it!

    That's easily solved - order another one - maybe a Cayman?

    You can count me into the "approve" camp, I think your car will be a stunning beauty
    Having a seal/cocoa on order myself I hadn't the balls to go for the wood trim, because I think it wouldn't work with seal. BUT combined with carrarawhite I'm sure it will look very classy
    I have been in the same wheels dilemma and finally went for the Carrera S wheels, as the Cayman S wheels have not been available as stock equipment. The crazy thing is that you could have the Cayman S wheels right from the Cayman S launch as an additional set with winter tyres. And here is what my dealer told me why you can't have your Boxster S eqipped with the Cayman S wheels from the factory: the Cayman S wheels are less expensive than the Boxster S wheels and Porsche did not want to give Boxster S buyers kind of discount....

    I agree with the recommendations to add the rear console and sunvisors in leather

    Thanks to all for the warm welcome and interest in my new ride!

    Regarding changes to the order spec - that's it. My budget for this car is officially closed! As you know, time spent with a Porsche order guide results in both pleasure and pain. Making it even tougher was selecting most options and colors sight unseen. The market here is very small, so rarely do we see Porsches with other than the most common options and color combinations. Rennteam has been a great source for filling in the gaps. I took a risk - we'll see what happens.

    Good to see you on board! You can always retrofit stuff anyway (at a cost). Agree, the order process is 'fun' - and tense. You've no idea how much I sweated about my Seal/Sand combination... and now it seems so commonplace!


    As your choice sounds like a very wonderful deviation from the norm, you bet your a$$ we're dying to see photos! I hope the wait doesn't drive you mad... you can always spend time amongst friends here in the meantime.
