    How can I "Turn off my sound "

    Just got my 997s.
    First real bug for me is;Every time I turn on the nav screen/computer /PCM.The bloody radio or if last chosen ,cd starts playing ! Then to turn it off you have to hit the mute button on the PCM or steering wheel.
    I have looked in the hand book and I can not see any other way of getting silence when I first push the left hand big knob. Have I missed something or do I have to live with it ? My Range Rover system does not act like this.
    Otherwise I love the car.

    Chopper sorry but the only way to turn off the sound while the NAV is on is by using the mute button. I ran into the same issue and can't beleive it but that is what everyone told me.

    What I don't understand is how I can turn off the sound on the Nav system so it doesn't keep interrupting the radio or my music (or the exhaust note) . Perhaps I've been too lazy to read the manual (I've read the main one but not so much the one on the electronics), but any advice would be appreciated.

    WHAT mute button!?

    Dang thing bugs me too. WTF?! Who designed it? There's other "convenience" problems too. What I did was program the radio to have a non-station (or is it a weak station?) on the radio so I don't hear anything even though the radio is on.

    There is a mute function (which resets back to "on" at shutdown) in the PCM but there is no external mute function unless you have the multi-function steering wheel.

    I asked the service manager and he said there is currently no fix or work around at this time. He was as puzzled as I am as to why there is no physical mute button on the PCM. He said several people have complained about it.

    I have the multi-function steering wheel. Not sure who at Porsche designed this one. Must have had a goooood lunch break before working on this one.

    The mute function should have been incorporated into the on/off switch like it was on my '02 911.

    I agree it is infuriating. I just switch to radio and turn volume knob right down (1. so CD isn't running and 2. to get traffic reports). Nav guidance volume and radio traffic announcement volume are adjusted separately and aren't affected by turning down the volume, unless you do it when the nav is actually giving guidance at the time.

    There is a way to solve this. When you set up the navigation there is an option to set the relative volume between the audio and the navigation voice. I have mine set up to have both music and navigation voice audible..then if I don't want the music I just turn down the volume knob on the audio to zero...and I still get the voice prompts from the nav.
