Re: My Box and a some old cranes!!! Pics again!

Great pictures of your Box and Stothert & Pitt's pre-war dockside cranes. (No, I am not a crane anorak but working in the ship repair game you recognise these things)!

Is that some kind of open-air museum or something?

Could I interest you in (cough) my invention?

I call it the container port.

Sorry Fritz I think an American guy called Malcolm McLean got in before you! Soulless, coldly efficient places! When I first went to sea as an engineer you got a week in every port whilst cargo was worked, a chance to get ashore, see some sights and meet the locals (females, preferably!. My last ship, a "box-boat" shifted ten times the amount of cargo in less than 24 hours. No chance for a run ashore!

    Just "preferably"?

I'd heard you sailors are not too fussy!

Steve dare I say the greatness of your photography is getting old

Nah, just kidding. Looks great!! The cranes make it seem like your Box is on a movie set or something...

To get back on topic, I'd like to second that.

A bit Grand Theft Auto I thought

If anyone else wants their car photographed I wouldn't mind taking some pics! Getting a bit bored of my Seal Grey Box now!!

Re: My Box and a some old cranes!!! Pics again!

OMG awesome, can you please buy a 997 and take pics that in the same style..

Care to meet up with my Box and the Millau bridge in September? I am sure you'd do a lot better than me as that would be a real challenge!

Re: My Box and a some old cranes!!! Pics again!

The setting is great, but I'm not overly fond of that fisheye lense. The proportions of your car are gorgeous, and it almost hurts to have them distorted that much

Re: My Box and a some old cranes!!! Pics again!

I think you're right Ente! I'm looking for a new lens at the moment - something that brings the background closer!

I use that wide angle for work and interior shots - great for that!!

    Great pics like always, Steve
I hope you will have some patience with me when I post the first pics of my baby in a couple of weeks made with a cheesy digicam held by my trembling hands...
Even still don't know how to upload the pics or how to photoshop (may use some old tape to at least partially cover the numberplate ) - sorry for my ignorance

Re: My Box and a some old cranes!!! Pics again!

    Steve, love your photos.

I have a question though, do you fix up your images in photoshop beforehand? The color seems very rich and the contrast is quite high compared to what i would expect.

Re: My Box and a some old cranes!!! Pics again!

The images are altered significantly. I try to get the image as clean and as close to what I want as possible in the camera then use Photoshop to add another level of creativeness!! I used to do a lot of design work in a previous career so I quite like to use Photoshop to achieve the look I want.

This shot has been cropped, levels adjusted, blue photo filter applied at 24%, adjusted for shadow and highlight, twice, midtone contrast and overall contrast. Colour has been adjusted to make it more saturated, matched with the other images also!! Also resized and saved for web in 256 colour format. The only thing I have done to my original shot below is remove the reg no! Hope that helps!

Oh and this one has higher levels - bumper in particular - thought I'd try that out, kind of the crux of having the sky like that without excessive masking! If I had a red car it would be a lot easier to do! Grey just matches the sky too much in Scotland It's all personal preference really though! Second pic is overlayed so you can see the crop!

Re: My Box and a some old cranes!!! Pics again!

    Very nice pics!!!
