    PDK only on Turbo S

    Hey Everybody,

Was following and reading all the posts concerning the Tip vs Manual debate and then it suddenly klicked:

Could it be that the PDK (Porsche Doppel Kupplung) will be introduced and solely available with the upcoming Turbo S ?
Actually I believe that this is highly likely.

To all Manual addicts: Do you accept F1- PDK style gears as substitute or do you need a clutch and an actual stickshift ?

    Just my thoughts.....

Re: PDK only on Turbo S

Auto/F1 vs stick is an interesting discussion and I often wonder what drives people to a stick. Almost all modern race cars (F1, Indy, Daytona prototypes, etc.) use a sequential transmission. The biggest effect of a sequential is not the speed of shifting (which is true, but only adds very slightly around a race track) but is left foot braking. There are still some drivers at high levels of racing that right foot brake, but as a rule almost all left foot brake - its very difficult to be competitive without left foot braking. Is it that using a clutch is nostalgic maybe? I'm looking at buying a 997TT (currently own an M5/SMG and wouldn't consider a car with a clutch. And an obvious side benefit is that when stuck in traffic a clutch does not add to the experience (at least not in my opinion).

F1 is going back to manual transmissions. So what is Ferrari going to call its tranny? xF1?

Re: PDK only on Turbo S

The SMG and F1 Trany is for sure faster on a track than with manual. Cause the driver doesnt need to lift of his hands while down/upshifting.
But I personally don't care if I would be a bit slower on a race track with manual, cause thats secondary for me.
Most priority is daily driving, and with auto trany its getting very soon boring. Of course in a traffic jam I would also prefer auto, but thats it.
What can replace the feeling of swithing gears from 1st to 2nd and than to 3rd in a perfekt manual trany which porsche has?
The main point that makes PDK so interesting to me is the downshifting noise of the engine. Dont forget to order the sport exhausts.
That for sure makes you addicted very very soon!!!

Re: PDK only on Turbo S

PDK option is a way for Porsche to make more profit vs manual . To limit it to Turbo S goes against everything the company stands for today ... mainly putting $$$$ in the bank ! So it ain't gonna happen .

Even if this may offend you, I'll say it loud and clear: STOP THIS CRAP TALK. I'm not sure you believe it yourself what you're saying but this not only doesn't make any sense, it is absolutely not true.

Funny...even I wouldn't fantasize about a Porsche which is due in around two years, earliest. But what do I know?!

Re: PDK only on Turbo S

RC, you mean u didnt see the latest spy pics? yup, the nine ninety NINE turbo, beyond the 998 is at the ring running laps:):):

Re: PDK only on Turbo S

What do you mean by "going back to manual transmission"? They already are manual - F1 is simply a shifting / clutching mechanism. Even if they get rid of the "electronics" involved, I'll bet they still have a sequential transmission, meaning that they'll use the clutch as a paddock creeper and shifts will still be clutchless (as with most race cars).
