Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

Its believe that the reason is because the locking rates of the LSD of the versions with PSM are less aggressive (22-27?) and therefore seem to be compatible with PSM, which is not the case with a 60-40 locking diff like the GT3/GT2's.

My guess is traditional racing coilovers (manual height adjustable and maybe damping too), adjustable swaybars, and TC (no PASM).

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

Maybe we should bet on it

Well, I'm just guessing. Maybe you KNOW What do you think it will be?

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

I take comfort knowing that Weissach has developed it.

    And there you have it

So, it could be very different from the system in the non-RS GT3?

The X51 has 306 lb-ft of torque. Does it really have more? Maybe because the block is bigger? Am I missing something?

Yes, the extra displacement of the 3.8 X51 gives it more torque. It doesn't rev nearly as high, so the peak power is lower...

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

is the clubsport option to be avaliable for the USDM ? I assume the GT3RS wont be brought over, like expected, but is the CS option avaliable for USDM? Thanks.

The RS will be US legal, but no clubsport I would think...

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

The RS will be? I thought for the 996 gt3 that was not for america, I was wondering about the CS package "no cost" according to the brochure... its the roll bar, alantra interior stuff, race seats, and a fire extinguisher... am I mixing stuff up?

The 996RS was not US legal, but all rumors say the 997 version will be. The clubsport will not be due to crash test concerns (rollbars are not going to pass DOT crash tests - too dangerous if not wearing a seatbelt/harness, etc...)

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

ok, gotcha... interesting the RS might be in america for the 997, I am surprised the CS wont be here, I wouldnt think the roll bar would be an issue, its not a cage that will have tubing up in the front right, just tubing in the back area where the back seats would be. So you shouldnt be able to contact the tubing... right?

We're talking about the US govt - since when did logic enter into the issue

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

    lol....

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

Racing bucket seats are optional(not part of clubsport package)-price around 4000 Euro in Europe!
Now, better things LSD is standard!
    Adaptive seats(without memory function) optional.
Only three interior options:Alcantara/leather, Black Leather or Natural leather dark grey.
PASM only, NO Sport Chassis option!!!
BTW, PCM with navigation is optional as well.
Suprise-Sport Chrono Plus is also optional...

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

Branimir - any more info on the specs ? Seems really bad they are charging extra for racing seats !

Where is the extra 35HP coming from when most tuners could only get 400HP from the 380HP motor?

Good Tuners always got more out of that engine but it involved the usage of high cost parts and buyers want always cheap, cheap, cheap. Best example are the Turbo owners who don't want to spend more money for quality tuning but only some cheap ECU stuff.

But anyway: you can't compare Porsche with a Tuner and although the engines are BASED on a similar construction, this doesn't mean they are the same. I'd bet that the new 997 GT3/Turbo engines don't have many parts in common with the ones from the 996 generation.

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

So the most important question to me for now is wether it makes sense to wait for the RS - or go happily with the initial GT3 model.

This is what we got right now about the GT3RS:

    1. same power as GT3 (other rumors indicate a few very little horses more but it isn't very likely)
    2. widebody instead of the narrow body
    3. different rear wing, similar to the 996 GT3RS
    4. around 50-70 kg less weight than the GT3
    5. top speed 310 kph (same as GT3), straight line acceleration slightly better than 997 Turbo with manual
    6. price tag higher than 997 Turbo
    7. PASM suspension (this is actually a surprise, another not that reliable rumor indicated a "classic" chassis but PASM seems to be more credible)
    8. TC/LSD

and No. 9...TRARAAAAA: PDK. The first Porsche to actually get it. PCCB seems to be standard on the GT3 RS too.

Again: the above are RUMORS, nothing based on facts or official documents we have seen. So take the above info with a grain of salt.

BTW: do you really want to get a GT3?

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

I would agree with those points apart from 4 and 7. Because of the wide-body shell (for homologation purposes) I suspect that it won't be much lighter than the standard GT3. Also Porsche are accepting the track bias of the RS and ditching the PASM in favour of a conventional setup as on the 996 GT3RS. I also understand the price to be slightly less than the 997TT (Pounds93k rather than Pounds97k). This is much higher than the GT3 mainly because of the standard fit ceramics.

Clearly the one to get will be the GT3RS, with the GT3 being more of a comfort model.

PDK!! fantastic, that's what I always thought! and maybe it's worth repeating that Porsche has done it's utmost to reduce the weight of the PDK as well. someone commented it would be heavy, but i dont think so; the piece i held in my hand (ready to handle approx. 600Nm) was drilled with holes like a swiss cheese!!
they certainly give their best to reduce weight even more so that it is going to go into the RS and not the Turbo.

Cant wait to the moment that production capacity and marketing will allow this piece of kit into the normal gt3; i certainly wouldnt buy one without it!

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

    I will get "normal" GT3 instead RS....If I could....

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

    Thanks RC!

The GT3 is so far the best current Porsche I would wholeheartedly consider buying. Now I just have to count my money.

I have no issue with the extended list of options which is available for this car so far, it just makes the car more liveable in everyday situations. On the other hand its position within the model range and especially the more solid machinery would it make it ideal to keep for a few years!

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

Standard GT3 for me thanks....I will not go for the RS if this rumors will be confirmed!

    1) Same power and obviously same 3.6 engine
    2) I prefer narrow body...not for the look but for track agility and driving pleasure
    3) I'm ok now with the new style of the rear wing
    4) That's the only good thing about the RS...but if you consider the standard PCCB, the difference in weight between the two cars is less
    5) Same top speed, but anyway even if, I don't consider top speed as an element to prefer one car or another
    6) I always considered the GT3 best value for money...if the price tag will be confirmed, this will not be the case of the RS
7 and 8) Even if I don't like it...I have to accept it! And if it's true that also the RS will get the same set up, for me it's not worth changing my mind
    9) For me, 50% of the driving pleasure it's given by the clutch and the shifter! I may be one of those who will buy a manual 430...Apart that, I'm not a fan of PCCB brakes! I will save that money to upgrade the standard brake system with a big Brembo kit wich brakes better then PCCB, cost considerably less and weight slightly less then the original.

Anyway, thanks a lot as usual RC to providing us such a rumors! I will be at Geneva during the first two press days...hope to finally decide if the new GT3 will be the right car for me!

    Thanks again!

RC said: "straight line acceleration slightly better than 997 Turbo with manual"

Wow... That fast in a sraight line and with handling like
we all expect from the RS??? The car should be a killer,
    esp on track.

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

I assume the GT3RS will reward driver input more so than the GT3, but with less driver aids will be the more difficult car to drive for the average driver. it's a shame that it's likely to come with PCCB since most 996 owners just remove these and fit steel brakes which are better suited to track use (and cheaper to replace).

p.s. my understanding is that the RS engine will produce more horsepower than the GT3, although whether this will be reflected in the published figures I have no idea.

Re: Short 997 GT3 Information Summary

And for the GT3 10K GBP up front like the turbo to get an early car...just confirmed by my dealer.
