Do you who makes the SMG for BMW? in the begining rumor was that magnetti Marelli, then it was said to be Getrag, and others sai that marelli makes the software and Getrag the
    "hardware".??

Getrag made the gearbox and Marelli made the electronic control system (hardware and probably software) for the original system.

The numbers quoted from that article are not correct. The BMW SMG II shifts in 80ms which is .08, not 0.8.

0.8 is 800ms. For comparison, the SMG III shifts at 65ms.

So, are the numbers in the article for the BMW simple typos, or are they actual mistakes? I can't consider the number quoted for the Audi as correct knowing that they didn't get the other numbers right.

The BMW shift time is just a typo. I have read that 0.008s/8ms number in reference to the DSG before in other places.

    Carlos,

This will be my last post in this thread about this. I apologize to everyone for dragging it so far astray. I do not wish to go any further off topic, but I feel I must comment.

You say that you've read 8ms for the DSG shift time in other places, but I provided links to two references on AUDI's website that indicate a shift time that is nowhere near 8ms. Has Audi of America made a mistake with their information? Maybe, but you have not so far provided any legitimate evidence to the contrary.

I will stand by my belief that the DSG cannot upshift in 8ms, especially since the info I've found from Audi says as much.

I haven't timed it myself, so if they lied I don't know but I remember it being mentioned in different places at the time of the lauch of the DSG, since the upshift time was pretty spectacular, and was the first box auto to beat the manual for that reason. Anyway, that was some time ago so I lost track now but here is more info in the 8ms upshift:

Well there is a difference between smg, and smg2(For smg3, i don't have any tech info, but it should be like smg2)

Mechanical components of SMG come from Magneti Marelli.

Mechanical components of SMG2(M3) come from Getrag and Sachs (if i remember well, anyway, its a german company).

    For softwares, i don't know.

Sorry to jump into this "OT-topic", but I am pretty sure Siemens was in charge of the software.
