    Question on "Colour to Sample" option

    Hi,

    Does anyone know if Mexico Blue or Riviera Blue colours are a "Color to sample" option? I read in a porsche magazine that an owner in UK wanted to order a riviera blue for his boxster and Porsche UK did not ask for any premium because it was a color option which Porsche used to offer in the past.

    Can anyone confirm?

    Check rennlist.com - there has been a lot of discussion there on color to sample. I think someone wanted Gulf Blue, but Porsche wouldn't do it as they have difficulty getting a good match between plastic and metal painted in certain light shades.

    Even if it's an old Porsche color, I believe you will still be charged (the cost is incurred as the car deviates from the standard production line, I guess).

    It does mean it's easier for them to match than something which isn't a standard paint code, though.

    The paint code for Riviera Blue is L39E (see picture below). It is, however, still a paint to sample option.

    Re color to sample, to quote a message from PCNA:

    "The technical reason that some colors cannot be offered has to do with the different paint processes used by suppliers of plastic parts versus the factory process used for the body. While they both use the same paint formula, the clear coat formulas and processes vary. These variations are enough to slightly change the tonal appearance of the paint color, thereby causing a mismatch effect. Because this mismatch effect would likely be viewed by a customer as a quality problem, PAG reserves the right to reject certain colors. For some reason, non-metallic light colors have the biggest problems."

    You're going to pay for Paint To Sample if not on that year's paint list. I'm the guy who ordered Gulf Blue (328) for my Carrera S Cab and after a bunch of emails Porsche said no more. They have about 150 colors that they cannot do because of current production processes.

    For some reason I'm not a fan of wood in Porsches unless the interior is in beige...reminds me too much of Mercedes and BMW
