Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

I closed down the Picture Thread, so everbody can enjoy the pictures without having to go through 100 posts or so.

So what do you say, guys? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

    Thumbs UP!

    I love it!!

    THE KING IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

very nice, but black would be my choice of color.

very nice, the backlight of the dials is now white.

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

Now the question is: how many of you are going for Tiptronic instead of manual because of the better performance? 0.6 seconds from 0-125 mph are a word and don't forget one thing: the 3.7 seconds (from 0-62 mph) value can be ALWAYS achieved with Tiptronic, the 3.9 seconds with manual can only be achieved if the driver really is lucky and a good shifter.

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

I'd love to have the tip.
The instrumental cluster only shows a digital boost gauge? No more 'analoque' boost meter?

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

The King is dead, long live the King!!

I would go for the Tiptronic. The biggest reason is the difference from 0-100, and especially 0-200. (And I live in a city)

0-200 in 12.2 seconds with a 5-speed auto is unreal!!
That means that my mom, in a 997 Turbo Tiptronic, would probably faster than me, in Carrera GT, from 0-200...

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

i think to stay with manual...also if is slower..

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

    WHYYYYY ????!!!
I dont know what to do... I hate automatic cars!
I may wait for the GT3 RS?! I dont know what to say...

Or I may buy a manual Turbo and tune it as much i can...
    I am confused..

But the CGT from 0-200 is 9.9 seconds.

Yeah, with Walter Röhrl behind the wheel on a nice warm summer day with a slight tailwind
Not with me and that (apparently) tricky clutch. (And haven't several magazines had trouble getting it under 10 seconds?)

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

The porsche website has more 997TT info.

    http://www.porsche.com/usa/

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

one thumb up, one tumb down.

i prefer the GT3 optically, still don't like the turbo's front fog lights and IMO the rear spoiler could have been bigger, more 959-esque.

but no doubt, it's a nice and mighty machine. tiptronic's 0-100 time is nice, but it's a shame IMO that PDK isn't ready.

nice base price. EUR 133,000 is kind of a bargain IMO.

I didn't think it was true but now that it is, it's a little depressing knowing that the manual version of the 997TT is slower than the tip. In every performance category, the tip is faster than the manual. It kind of takes away from the car for us manual tranny guys.

To add insult to injury, you're right, the tip will always be faster than the manual, consistently. The best the manual can do is to try to stay close.

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

Thank you RC for posting all these pics and info and GT3 and Turbo!
    Thumbs up for the performance!
More than ever, supercar performance will be available to the common driver!
very impressive stuff, those acceleration times!
Easthetically, it's what I expected, not too aggressive (I'm sure an aerokit will come later) and purposeful.
I don't like those fog lights, they look like a Koi fish or a hammerhead shark. Might look better in reality.

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

The Tip figures are really impressive.
I would anyway take the Manual. The only thing which will be much more interesting to wait for is the PDK. Since it will have minimum 6 speeds, and should be faster than the old fashioned 5 speed manual. If not to 100kph, for sure for all the other figures.
Anyway for me fun comes first.
Which car really impressed me is the GT3, this is the ultimate porsche, if you ask me. FUN factor 120% (RWD, etc etc)!!!

    Manual of course!

I'll always put driving pleasure before numbers.
If you're after performance and nothing else, then of course tiptronic. All you have to do is put your foot down!

The fact that the tip is so good in terms of perf might further delay the into of PDK, probably til the GT3RS.

Quite disappointing news, I would rather say.

0-200kph performance not significantly better than 996TTS or BMW M6.

PDK is still not available, only a boring tiptronic transmission (it will never achieve similar downshift or upshift times as a DSG transmission).

Top speed only slightly higher than for 996TTS but slower than some limos out there (Alpina B5 etc.)

My conclusion: The package is not good enough for me. I will not order it but wait for the powerkit and PDK.

The only problem I have with all of this is: how can a 5-speed Tiptronic be faster than a 6-speed manual? And not just from 0-100 km/h, but also from 100-200 km/h?

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

Personally I love the stick-shift, but now it's really a difficult decision when the performance figures are better with the tiptronic. Really impressive how Porsche have managed to optimize the system to this extent.

Was watching the animation on the porsche site and I really like their marketing

The observant will find a little miss in the text on Act 3 -> Climb in -> Comfort.... In the text presenting that the bose system is standard is stating "....And the acoustics inside the new 911 Turbo S are equally impressive..." Does this mean that the S is on its way soon maybe, hehe

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

    Just thinking loud.
Would it be possible, that with this numbers they just try to force potential buyers to take the tip version, cause the engine life and stability with an auto trani is a lot easier and longer?
Anyway we must wait for the first tests to see the real figures.

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

    RC, this is awsome car!
Personally manual is for me the way to go! BTW, rear axle differential is available for manual only! So, manual will(or is!) be faster around race track then TIP! I like te look and specs... TIP is faster only is straight line and in the hand of experineced driver. On curvy road manual will beat TIP for sure, despite the fact the Porsche probably did fantastic job on TIP this is old five-speed TIP... What about down changes on tip?
Any way, manual is the one for me!

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

RC, tip is your choice ??
do you have the 0-100mph times tip/6speed?
    thanks

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

    Wow,
I just can't believe the performance diff. between 6spd and Tip.

    Tough, tough decision.

Re: Discuss the Official 997 Turbo Pictures and Info HERE

I will go with the manual. and i will place the dirrerentiental option which is only for the manual...

I dont believe the two cars to have SO much difference in acceleration.. Maybe only from the start.. (RED LIGHT)

Lets be serious. I dont know if Porsche mechanics are magicians but as both cars have the SAME top speed (310km)
and the tiptronic is 5speed this means it has longer ratios for sure...

I heard also that a new grey color will be out for the 997tt!

the answer is quite simple: röhrl is getting older...

It's also the view most other drivers will have of the car-the tail.
