997 vibrating at idle.. is this a normal behaviour?

    Hi,

I just took delivery of a used black/black 997 C2S .. What an amazing car!! Everything is really pleasant and the ride with the -20mm/LSD is better than I thought. Also the PCCB brakes are fantastic and so are the adaptive sport seats! .. The car is like brand new and it really is enjoyable

My question however is regarding vibrations on idle... When I'm on idle at e.g. a red-light or just stopping.. the seat is vibrating/shaking and so does the passenger seat. When pushing slightly at the throttle it disappear when I give the engine some revs... Is this a normal behaviour or could this be a problem with my car? Any similar experiences from any of you other C2S owners in here?

    Thanks!

    /Lukas

There is a slight, pleasant, very low frequency vibration. It's pleasant because if feels like there is a monster engine behind you waiting to be unleashed. It certaintly isn't bothersome.

It is the vibrating feature # 999 for females only !!!!!
Has to be ordered with a certified picture of the future owner so the vibrating feature can be position just in the right spot.

Re: 997 vibrating at idle.. is this a normal behaviour?

    Congrats Lukas! Great color!
Regarding idle vibration... What revs are when engine is warm at idle? Normally you can feel the engine as Alan said.

Re: 997 vibrating at idle.. is this a normal behaviour?

The magazine reviewers of this car, many of them commented that the engine sounds like a bucket of shaking bolts hissing and fussing when idling; especially when warming up. The engine is just not a purring kitten when idling. I've grown to ignore it's gesticulations at 1500 rpm or fewer.

I'm hoping you have the same "problem." So it's just a normal thing... .

Re: 997 vibrating at idle.. is this a normal behaviour?

Perfectly normal! You'll get used to it soon enough

Yes, the "bucket of shaking bolts" sound is normal when starting the car cold. Interesting is that with PSE, that sound is either minimal or non-existent.

True, I totally forgot about PSE, when I had the stock pipes on it was very obvious. With PSE it went away totally!

Re: 997 vibrating at idle.. is this a normal behaviour?

Thanks for the info guys... LOL, that 999 option is a good one ... unfortunately don't think I have it though, hehe

But my concern is that the car is really vibrating.. and If i starr att the passenger seat the seat is visually shaking... In my Boxster 987 I didn't have anything like this.. I know the engine is a lot smaller and such but the engine was even closer to the seat.. but didn't generate those vibrations... When driving and revving there is of course no problems....

Anyone with some more technical knowledge who can describy this phenomenon with the vibrations?

Just had to post another pic ... Will retrofit PSE soon so don't worry

    Cheers / Lukas

Hummmmm, interesting. Now I gotta pay attention to "exactly" what those sounds COULD be. Thanks for the clue.

Plus, since I did the simple modification to have PSE on all the time (ie., disconnect the electrical connector), PSE is on immediately at engine start-up.

Sounds like the engine's idling speed excites resonance in your seats.

You could try moving the passenger seat backwards or forwards on its runners, to see if it improves matters. It's not so easy to do that with the driver's seat, of course.

Have you asked your dealer about it? Maybe there is a fix.

Re: 997 vibrating at idle.. is this a normal behaviour?

May car is the same at idle. Its normal.

Re: 997 vibrating at idle.. is this a normal behaviour?

What RPM is idle speed out of interest? What I mean is, what is the standard RPM supposed to be?

Sounds like it's more than the normal vibration we feel... I'd never question the slight vibration I feel as being something wrong. (I can't see the other seat shake)

I'd get it checked out... may be a small vacuum leak.

Seems like I should have Porsche to look at this anyhow so that I don't drive around with some vacuum leak if that's a fact. It will however be covered by the warranty I suppose since the car is just 1 year old.

    Thanks for your input!

Re: 997 vibrating at idle.. is this a normal behaviour?

Awesome car, congrads! If the idle is an issue just drop it by your local Porsche dealer and have them check it out. I think it is normal but a quick trip to the dealer couldn't hurt. Also love those brakes! I wish I had them....
