C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

From a visual standpoint I wasn't happy with the wheel gaps I have at the rear of my 997.

Here's a couple of "before pics", my car on the standard Carrera III's and 18x10 265/40/18 Conti Sport Contacts.

It's also lowered -30mm with Eibach springs and has 14mm spacers. The fronts btw have 7mm spacers:

Here's it is now with a set of 18x11 Carrerra III rears off a 997C4.

Michilin Pilot 295/35/18, no spacers front or back:

What do ya all think? Like or no like?

Personally I'm really happy with the way this turned out. I got the aggressive look I was after while maintaining a 'factory' appearance. I'm going to re-spacer the fronts; I wanted to try it w/o spacers to see if it would make a bigger visual impact vs. the rears. Spacing the fronts will bring more balance IMO.

I also noted that the Michilin Pilots have a wider profile in comparison the the Conti's. The fronts are the same size on paper but in real life there's a big difference. They also give a better ride than the Conti's.

I keeping the original set of wheels. I'm going to use them for track days. After I burn off those Conti's I'll mount some street legal track rubber on them.

I figure having the wider rears/spacers will probably affect handling towards understeer, right? In any case I've wound up with a wheel set I can use on the street which looks more appealing (to me anyway), and I'll have a set of wheels that reserved for track use only.

Anyways In case anyone else was considering this solution, here it is. Plus, I'd love to know what you all think

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

Just for reference, here's what the car looked like before any work was done:

That wheel gap at the rear was just way too annoying for me!

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

    way better like this!

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

totally agree looks much better & more agressive

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

    Looks great!

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

Looks great, the different rear offsets make the C4 CarreraIII spokes more concave which is a nice design element.

If you don't mind me asking, which dealer did you pick up the c4 wheels and cost? Were they brand new parts or take-offs from another C4? Cheers.

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

Damian- I sent you a PM

Thanks for the comments guys; I'll post another pic once I get the fronts spaced out again.

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

    Looks 1000X better! Good job!

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

    NICE WORK POST MORE PICS,

your car look exactly like mine!!!!

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

    2

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

I agree 100%. Definately a more agressive stance. Nice job! Don't forget to honk when you're reloading.

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

Some side on before and after pics would be helpful. Do you have any?

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

    Thanks for the comments everyone

I'll take some new pics and post them here. Might be a day or so.

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

Here's a recent one I found on my hard drive here at work:

Gives a good idea of how the 18x11 rears look.

Damn, looking at that pic makes me want to sneak out to the parking lot and go for a quick drive around the neigborhood

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

    nice mod!!!
tell me why you didnt change to the 19"carrera S set up ??

with the same dimensions BUT on 19" ??

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

    Hey Dilinger, call me "old-school"!

I've grown to really like the minimal design of the Carrera III's (easier to clean behind the spokes and inside rim too!). I also happen to prefer the look of seeing "more" tire than less tire ala the 19's. Another benefit is wieght savings so acceleration/braking performance is not sacrificed as much, especially if I went with the 19's off a C4.

I do like the 19's- the Classics, Lobster Forks and especially the new Sport Designs. But after looking at many of the pics here on the forum, and going to the dealer over and over to compare wheel choices, I decided this was the best fit for me, my personality.

When I ordered her, I swore up and down that I wouldn't change a THING. When you pay this sort of dough for a car, you shouldn't have to make any changes whatsoever, right? LOL so I was wrong. So if I was to make changes, I wanted them to be subtle, understated changes. Changes that maybe only I would notice. Another example; If I ever do exhaust, I'll do one that allow me to re-use my stock oval tips. Call me weird; I just happen to like them over the quad tips. I should change my forum name to "Mr. Minimalist"

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

    why not
    1) carrera Classics
    2) set up of carrera C2S as porsche suggests...

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

Well other than the reasons I stated above, I like the aggressiveness the offset on the rears provide, and as understated as it is, dare I say... unique

So that I don't have to worry about handling balance issues come track days, I also kept my original set of Carrera III's which I intend to burn off the Continentals mounted to them on a upcoming track event and replace them with a set of proper track rubber.

A solution for both street and track

But who knows. At some point I might opt to sell off both sets and git BBS LM's

    But not just yet

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

    KHakkinen,

    1) the set up of the carreraS has exactly tha same wheel width with you tires
235 front 295 back so it aggressive

    2) i think if you put proper track rubber on the second set of back wheel you got, you might mess with the balance of the car, while you will have street rubber in the front wheels...just my 2 cents

Nevertheless you car look fantastic and indeed more aggresive than stock

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

    me likey...

Good point, except the offset of C4 rears (both 18's and 19's) sit wider on the car. They're different than what come off the regular Carrera S. I don't have the offset numbers handy (perhaps someone else can post them). The rear set of 18's on my car sit a tad wider than a set of lobster forks off a regular Carrera S. Make sense? I'll stop at the dealer and get some comparo pics next to a Carrera S when I get a chance.

When I stated that I have both sets of wheels, I meant that I have the complete set of front and rears. One full set with Conti's that came with the car, and another full set off a C4 that wears PS2's. So there would be no imbalance, as I'd mount track day tires on all four original rims front and back- after I get done smoking off those Conti's on the racetrack

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

    oh !! thats nice!!

I thought that you bought only a set of rear rims for a carrera 4!!

    not is makes sense...

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out!

car looks nice.. i like the clean and simplicity look of your car!

Re: C4 wheelset now mounted on my C2. Check it out

    Mika-

Did you notice any handling differences with the wider, different offset rears? I am considering the same conversion.
