    Picture of the 997 key!

Can someone post an image of the key used in the 997. I just wondered what it looked like. When I took the 997 for a test drive I forgot to look at it.

My only recolection is that it's doesn't fold and is fairly cheap looking! Is this right?

    Cheers all.

Re: Picture of the 997 key!

yeah, looks pretty stinkin cheap. but it gets the job done

Re: Picture of the 997 key!

Thanks for that. It looks okay. Wish it folded tho'

Re: Picture of the 997 key!

Unfortunately Porsche hasn't figured out how to make a retractable key FOB with a light for the 997. Maybe one of the other German or Japanese manufacturers could show them how.

Re: Picture of the 997 key!

The folded key for the Cayenne is no prize either, IMHO. Ours is great and funtional when it's stuck into the ignition switch and used. The Cayenne, though fun to nervously fiddle with, like a little match box, doesn't give great a feel when using it to start the car because it's axis is not centered. My two cents (more like one cent).

Re: Picture of the 997 key!

The key is cheap looking and poorly designed. The worst part is that the two "buttons" protrude from the key and it can easily be "pressed" in your pocket. I have walked into my garage many times and found the hood unlocked. Most likely pressed by other objects in my pocket when I bend down etc. So make sure you look at that before you drive off. Also, the door will lock and unlock when you wash your car with the key in your pocket. It really bugs me with a $100k+ car.

    Anyone from Porsche reading this?

Re: Picture of the 997 key!

Volvo has nicer keys than Porsche....

What are the chances of getting a car fob re-design for current P owners without having to pay an arm and a leg to do so? (Not likely, but worth a shot!)

Re: Picture of the 997 key!

I know, first thing I complained about to Porsche after I took back the 997 Carrera 4S Cab demo car I had for weekend a few months back.

How can an Audi key be 100 times more ergonomic than a Porsche key when there is a x3 difference in car price?!

What does Clarkson say?! "Porsche design, the least a man can get"...

PS: I hope you can't copy a key from a photo, or is that just me being paranoid?!

Re: Picture of the 997 key!

Thanks guyz. I spoke to the OPC today and I was informed you do get 2 keys plus the plastic one on delivery. Someone told me you only got one hence the reason I asked.

The design and build of these are very poor.

LOL... you may want to examine how tight your pants are!

Re: Picture of the 997 key!

Both my keys have broken - the design is terrible. I have broken them by pressing too hard on the unlock button which then gets stuck in the depressed position which means I cannot unlock the car. This once left me stranded - I had to walk home to get the spare key.

Why didn't you just unlock the car from the door lock or am I missing something?

    Lol...

Re: Picture of the 997 key!

Worst key I've ever had. Shocking. I agree with everything above. I've found the hood open many times after the key is in my pocket. And what is worse I suppose is that the 997TT will get the same piece of terrible plastic. The 996 key wasn't great but this is a shameful piece of rubbish. Maybe VAG group can show them how to make a key now they have bought 20%. I've even been tempted to make a CNC machined case with a poly liner. I reckon their would be a healthy market for them...

This happens to me all the time. Hood pops open, doors lock/unlock. Pain in the ***. Oh I wear loose pants

Gee... I thought tight pants are still in. Mine still has bell bottoms

Actually, just my house keys and money clip in my pocket are enough to open all the doors etc.
I always have to make sure I do not unlock my car when I walk away after I park at the street. Loose pants or not.

Nice watch Kevin! What kind is it?
