My exact thoughts even though I like it......991.2 could be the last ""typical"" 911 then ..

Buddy, every 911 is the "last" of something Smiley Smiley

So true, and I might add, the next 911 is the beginning of something else.

I don't want to scare you! About two or three years ago or so, some time before the 4 cylinder boxster came out, I reported that also the 911 will get a 4 cylinder and I mentioned the letter "e".

I don't know how to find my post to repeat it, my post is still valid.

Is that going to be the four cylinder cheap "e" version?

    e for hybrid - 4 cyl. + electrical power

There is not going to be a 4-cyl. 992, not even as a hybrid. Smiley

    where did I say 992?

So what? 993? Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

There won't be a 991 with 4-cyl. either, so... Smiley

joka aside - on a powerpoint preseted internally (Porsche) few years ago (2-3) there was a slide with engine future technology, Boxtser 4 cyl and later 911 4 cyl with hybrid

Maybe this will never happen - but down-sizing is going on so maybe we will see in the next or the model after a 4 cyl. hybrid engine.

nope - you need space for electrical power unit, the generator and batteries. And you need to save somewhere weight for this extra weight. Plus, you can achieve stronger CO2 regulations.

Look at their LMP1 car - 4 cyl engine with 500 hp plus 400 electrical. Okay a 911 want get 900 hp but why not 300 hp 4 cyl. engine and 150 hp electrical power. 50 km range with up to 120 km/h. You can drive in city or to work pure electrical.

Hybrid tech in the 911 is coming, just not based on a 4 cyl engine. Also probably not immediately in the Carrera models but this remains to be seen.  Smiley

disagree - like the LMP1 Audi - it could drive front only.....plus you have loads of space behind the seats of a 911 - however, I am sure RC has the data already - he is on a roll indecision

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

I do not have details, unfortunately but I know what kind of engines will be used (not in detail though, just the raw data like cylinders, displacement and horse power with a minor error margin in the horse power domain).

Hybrid tech is coming but maybe not immediately in the Carrera models. Also, it will be rather used to push power output and lower emissions/fleet consumption numbers, if you get my point.

I have no information on the engines used for totally new models but I heard that a possible 960 could use a new developed V8 engine (incl. hybrid tech!), which could make it into other VW Group brands as well. Not before earliest 2020 though.

I am not sure if the electrical power will go only to the front, like LMP1. In this case you loose RWD. I think we will have a combined system smaller engine together with a electrical motor as one unit. But this is pure speculation.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

So much going on in this picture!
First I thought that the little grey line on the front of the hood was just to camouflage the real "square" shape.
However, then I saw that at the top of the front bonnet, the shape indicates that the car will have a 993 style front with the recess running down the center. Also, it indicates that the entire front is still wrapped in camo.
Regarding the headlight cluster, these are as traditionally covered with a sticker resembling the old design. However, there seems to be a weird misalignment going on in all the pics of the front... so I guess that the entire front fender panels are covered with camouflage still. Let's hope that the fishbowls are gone!

Edit; now I see that the misalignment is in the sticker, not in the panel... so the front fender might be the real thing.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

From the sideviews it looks like the "fishbowls" as you call them are gone. The headlight design seems to be similar to the one of the new RSR racecar with the four LED spots.

The side air intakes seem to be the real deal as well in some pictures. For me they look a bit too 718ish

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

On one of the picture you for see a bit of the instrument dials and it's hard to tell but semmed a bit too bright for normal analogue dials, maybe they are LCD now...

Yeah, I thought I saw the same.
Regarding the shapes of the front bumper inlets, the camouflage is intended to make us believe it will look like this:

    [   \   /   ]

But I have a feeling they will be more like this:

    [   >   <   ]
