    PDK- what is going on?

    Does anyone know what is going on with PDK? Its difficult to understand how Porsche is "trying to get it to work" when they are so closely associated with VW/Audi who have a perfect DSG system. Will it be different from DSG?

    Also, regarding pricing, the DSG is about 1k on a new VW GTI, so what will PDK be on a Porsche? 10k?

    the Audi/VW DSG system is not perfect, it cannot handle torque/horsepower over a certain rating, which makes it inapproproate for certain porsches.

    they are waiting to introduce it on a higher model first, that way, a lower model won't be availible with the excellent transmission while a higher powered one isnt.

    The Veyron has DSG. Porsche will never produce a car more powerful than the Veyron.

    Feedback I got from Bachelier, race car driver/ instructor close to Porsche is that PDK is basically ready but its problem is that it is very heavy compared to a sequential gearbox.
    So although it would fit perfectly a Turbo with its more GT useage, it is not optimum for a car like the next GT3 for example.
    He mentionned the best solution would be a DSG for the Turbo and a sequential box for the GT3! Don't think so, too expensive!
    So since we don't know anything at the moment, my guess is either a super sequential "a la" Bosh SMG2 system, or a very light DSG.

    Thats interesting guys. What I'm curious about is if Audi DSG is an evolved version of the original Porsche PDK from the 80's and if Porsches new PDK system will just be mildly different from the current Audi DSG.

    teflon, you are absolutely correct,

    but the gearbox on the veyron is very special with some very exotic metals and components, it is certainly not suitable for mass production because it simply costs too much!

    wow...but that doesn't really suprise me. If i remember correctly in the top gear, clarkson said that the stalks that the wipers/turn signals were on cost like 3000 (pounds?) a piece!
