    Re: 992 Thread Closed

No doubt, the new 992 will be the best 911 ever but probably also the most perfect one. We all know what perfection can do though when it comes to emotional products.

With all the spy shots and rumors about the next 911 (992), where are the corresponding items about the next Boxster/Cayman?  Are those models going to carry on unchanged or are they being retired or are the mules a little slower to emerge?

One has heard rumblings of more Volkswagen Group products moving to BEV platforms and this might be a move that would increase desirability of the Boxster/Cayman twins.  Porsche product planning is said to be developing a separate EV platform with Audi and the general market has moved away from sports cars to crossovers; however, a flexible component set similar to Volkswagen’s MQB would still allow Porsche to profitably produce core sports cars.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

In addition, probably almost all "leaks" and "spyshots" are carefully planned by Porsche. For the moment, they are building the hype around the 992, so they are keeping the boxster/cayman prototypes under covers... you will start to see more spyshots when Porsche wants you to.

Porsche are trying to introduce Grand Touring elements to the 911 because this is what consumers want. And the demand is not just for luxury equipment but also for better ride, less tiresome cabin noise etc because there are now plenty of rivals to the 911 from mainstream manufacturers which are very fast and more comfortable at the same time. Some decades ago it was Porsche for sport or Mercedes for comfort and things were easier. Now the lines are blurred.

However, if the exclude the dedicated sportcar brands Porsche still offer the best drive and without breaking the bank.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

I disagree on the "bank" statement - a old GTS has broken the 200k CHF barrier already and with so many 991 produced - residual values are and will drop for any 911. They will be come victim of their own success. at the same time competition offer here 30+% discount on new cars which makes the Porsche brand even more expensive. Panamera vs Mercedes is the best example - I can get a huge discount on a AMG paying less afterwards than a non turbo Panamera - totally nuts.... (despite that I like the Mercedes products better from a Interior point of view)

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

I was referring to the 911.

Panamera and the SUVs play by different rules. I don't think I would buy any of those new or used in favour of say, Mercedes or BMW.

The 911 is a car worth buying and keeping for many years IMO so that depreciation is not an issue. All model except the Turbo/ Turbo S are quite affordable and even an entry level Carrera 911 or a CS with reasonable options are very adequate for speed and rewarding for sport driving at lower prices.

Rightly so as younger consumers prefer crossovers/SUVs to sports cars.

A few more pics of that 992 GT3 mule...

Probably a  racing version of the 992 undergoing test.

The wing is too extreme and most probably unnecessary for a road-going GT3.

You don't really think that this is the final product do you?  As with previous GT3 models, the wing on the test mule looks different from the real thing.

On a more serious on topic note: the ugly covers may hide technology for an active wing solution...
