If Porsche offers MT in future GT models I would wager the percentage in the US will drop significantly. I suspect it will be closer to the ROW percentage. There was pent up demand and Porsche satisfied it. Many who order MT this round will not do so again.

They wish to continue but emission law will stop them at some point.

I don't think this has much to do with emission law. For the Carrera, Cayenne, Macan, etc. yes, but for the GT cars it has more with performance to do. Porsche cannot keep up with the competition when everyone else moves to turbo, hybrid, etc.

People can talk about the last NA, how great it feels, that it is a keeper, etc. but once you are consistently overtaken by all other brands on a track then a turbo charged GT3 will be in high demand...

The only alternative would be to massively shed weight by moving to lighter materials and ditch all the driving aids. I don't see that happen since the car would not only become much more expensive, but also undrivable for the masses.

    Very well said. Smiley

I still think that 48V systems and systems like the eBooster/etc. will prevail in sportscars, even in n/a ones (if possible) because they add the necessary additional power and "lower" emissions as well in the process.

What difference does it make? Just two random, decent size autoshows in major markets. Close enough in date not to matter.

Re: 992 (Next 911 generation 2018/2019) Thread Closed

LA autoshow and Paris autoshow similar, LOL.

Paris alternate with Frankfurt. They are the biggest in size while Geneva is the exotic one.

+1. And not just for the track performance.

I went through a lot of trouble to get one of the last NA Cayman GTS last year (a "keeper"), which I have been driving daily. Then, over the weekend, I spent some time driving a 991.2 Carrera S with the turbo motor. Bottom line: I would happily trade for the turbo motor. Granted, comparing a Cayman GTS motor to a GT NA motor is fraught. Furthermore, the 991.2 in question has the Sport package including SPASM and PDCC, and it was running brand new PS Cup 2 tires. However, purely in terms of powertrain v. powertrain, I would take the turbo. I even liked the exhaust note, even with the sport exhaust in normal mode.

And mine runs like hell, no way this engine makes 450 hp only...

Had a drive with a buddy with a M4 Competition Package on the Autobahn last weekend and I was driving open with my wife inside the car and I blew him off at any speed, it was a spectacular difference. He was so pissed. Smiley Smiley OK, I cheated a little bit by pressing that performance button all the time but still...

Same thing when we got back from Munich on the Autobahn: A red 991.2 Carrera GTS Coupe with Munich license plates was following me and he couldn't keep up. Again, I was driving with the top open at speeds up to 280 kph (probably the reason I cannot move my head to the left right now because of excruciating neck pain Smiley) and he always fell back a little bit while I was fully accelerating. When we hit a speed limited zone, he drove to my right and showed thumbs up.

So whoever gets my car will be very happy with the power, it certainly puts more than 450 hp on the road. Smiley

    Wonderbar:

What hp/torque figures can we realistically expect in the 992 variants?

992 Turbo S around 640-670 hp, otherwise I got some hints but nothing to write home about. 992 Carrera probably starts at 400 hp now, Carrera S at 440 hp, GTS at 470 hp...maybe slightly more.

I haven't seen the final specs yet (right now I'm way too occupied/interested with the E63, R8 and so on...), not even sure I will get them before July or so...

I hope the same is true of the R’s engine with 6 Individual throttle bodies (last seen on a street car in 1973).   Makes for great sound, power, and throttle response...

The 911 is becoming too big and on the border of being huge enlightened

Porsche want a single model to do everything from sportscar to lux-GT.

I don't think this is the right strategy. They should have kept the 911 ethos of a lithe and agile sportscar and add a real GT (new-age 928) to the range to truly rival the offerings of competitive brands.
