Porsche is all about Form follows function:
- so, tell me, why would you need a little shifter at all? It has not function, just takes a lot of space. The paddles are enough and the gear selection could be done in smarter ways
- Cupholder - essential I would say. But hey - try to get your cup out behind your rear elbow? And also - why only one? Put two inside. At least that hole seems to be more reliable and stable as that shaky thing they had since the 997.
- and talking about form follow function, hopefully they stop implementing those sensor buttons from the Panamera, etc You can't sense what the button is good for, nor where it is at all.
Just let the customer decide?
I prefer the first option...you can play golf with that 
Unless they changed this again, so they can charge for PDK. 
The steering wheel also looks to be a new design with a thin solid lower spoke. The design of the column stalk for the wipers rules out a switch to column mounted paddle shifters for the PDK variant as it bends too far towards the back of the wheel for there to be space fr them.
