Re: 992 (Next 911 generation 2018/2019) Thread Chiuso

Porsche is all about Form follows function:

    - so, tell me, why would you need a little shifter at all? It has not function, just takes a lot of space. The paddles are enough and the gear selection could be done in smarter ways

    - Cupholder - essential I would say. But hey - try to get your cup out behind your rear elbow? And also - why only one? Put two inside. At least that hole seems to be more reliable and stable as that shaky thing they had since the 997.

    - and talking about form follow function, hopefully they stop implementing those sensor buttons from the Panamera, etc You can't sense what the button is good for, nor where it is at all.

I wonder why they don't do something modular when it comes to contentious stuff like cup-holders - like they used to with cassette storage etc.  Just make it a zero-cost option: either a little, elegant storage bin - or, if you're that way inclined, a holder for your Big Gulp angryindecision  Just let the customer decide?

That said, I always found those pop-out cup holders a bit useless.  Tried to put an e.g. Sprite bottle in once but it flopped from side to side alarmingly.  Only real use I found was for holding the radio Porsche give you on driving events.  Maybe they work for espressos..

On my humble C30, there is a double cupholder in the centre console.
Take the cupholder frame out, and you end up with a big compartment that can be closed off with a shutter... just sayin'  Smiley-shark.gif Smiley

I don't hold drinks in the car but at least these retractable ones come in handy for those occasions that I need my phone handy like when streaming audio to the PCM via bluetooth (otherwise I keep my phone in my pocket or door pocket and the cupholder hidden from view)... if they were on the rear of the centre console then not even useful for that.

Car right now do not offer two things that would be hugely helpful:

    1) a place to put your phone and use it as easily as the built in screen

    2) Waze in CarPlay

Not at all, is pretty tight, I guess the phone's dimensions locks right, when I tighten the ring around it, it gets pretty secure.

Also it's convenient that the glovebox is right in front so I have a flat USB cable with which I can plug into the power outlet inside the glovebox and close it with the cable hanging out, and since the cable is flat it doesn't get punched by the glovebox door. This way I can also charge the phone if I would need to.

I hate phone supports in a car, I'd rather have my phone in my pocket that have any type of phone holder even if removable, so this solution does away with that.

If we didn't know it was from a 992, there isn't much indication that is a sportscar's cabin... maybe it's because of all the apparatus, cables and whatnotw all over the place...

That new dash design looks like it was intended as a return to the dash of the original model. Interesting to see that most of the functions on the centre console retain physical buttons as opposed to the haptic feedback type in the Panamera kiss The steering wheel also looks to be a new design with a thin solid lower spoke. The design of the column stalk for the wipers rules out a switch to column mounted paddle shifters for the PDK variant as it bends too far towards the back of the wheel for there to be space fr them.

It’s certainly an interesting departure, and has plenty of cues from the past - brings back memories of my 964 and 993. This must be intentional - the sports car market must be a shrinking one. I wonder if we start to see the same changes that happened in the motorbike market - where the appeal shifted from cutting edge superbikes to models which evoke fond memories of youth smiley

Dont remember the Ferrari guys complaining about the Ferrari 360 F1 Gear Lever AkA Gate Lever 16th Century Castle!!!

I also dont remember people complaining about the 918 Spyder shifter lever either (in the 992 it´s the same thing as the 918 spyder, except it´s located in the center console).
