    xm/ sirus sat. radio available

just was informed by the exchange porsche in illinois that sat. radio is avail. as aftermarket option .997 or boxter must have PCM .cost.2m .digital .no visable antenna.parts list from cayenne . crg

Re: xm/ sirus sat. radio available

So this is now a supported aftermarket option from Porsche? What was/is the cost?

Re: xm/ sirus sat. radio available

i will followup with dealer to ensure the install does not alter any warranty. crg

Re: xm/ sirus sat. radio available

This makes perfect sense, now that I ordered the Cayenne part for my attempted retrofit. Gotta love it.

Re: xm/ sirus sat. radio available

Crap so now I have to retrofit PCM to get it

    All 997's have PCM

Fitting PCM only applies if you have a 987.

    Re: All 997's have PCM

Yes, I forgot to specify...for my 987S. Still frustrating.

    crg...

I called them after reading your post. Just so everyone knows, there is NO new part number for a 997. They are using Cayenne parts for a retrofit. So, it does work, but its still a retrofit. Again, no NEW part number for a 997.

    Just FYI....

Re: xm/ sirus sat. radio available

reading powerkit 4s post and he says he factory ordered xm. obviously a fast moving situation.i hear the problem all along had to do with the antenna. crg

Re: xm/ sirus sat. radio available

Have they resolved the NAV/Satellite antenna issue yet?

I was at the dealer today and so far, no word.

    Regards,
    Deanski

Re: xm/ sirus sat. radio available

Yes they resolved the antenna issue. The new antenna has 3 leads (2 for sat and 1 for nav), while the existing antenna only has 1 lead for nav. For the retrofit, you simply replace the antenna using the cayenne parts for the sat unit.

Re: xm/ sirus sat. radio available

I have already contacted my delaer to get word on the XM upfit. Hopefully I will hear something back in a day or so including price for the upfit.

    Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

Here's what one member on the other forum recvd from Porsche directly:

Forgive me for corresponding in English, but I am American.
I was unable to find an email address for the factory on the United States
website, however your address appears on the German website please forward
this to the proper department-thank you.
I recently ordered a 911 and await production and delivery. One option I
was looking for was to have satellite radio in the vehicle. Nothing on the
US website or information from my dealer can provide information to
integrate Satellite radio into the PCM. Apparently it is available in the
Cayenne. I called PCNA and the person with who I spoke was unable to
    assist.
There are several web based bulletin boards where Porsche owners have
debated the way to integrate satellite into the PCM to no avail. There is a
large market in the United States for this ability.
No one apparently has reached out to Germany for the solution, therefore my
    inquiry.
Please respond with a solution. Thank you for your consideration.

This morning I received the following reply:

    Dear,

First of all, thank you for your purchase of a new Carrera. I am sure you
will be very pleased by your decision.

We have received many requests for a satellite radio option on our
sportscars. Unfortunately, until very recently there has not been adequate
antenna technology to allow a seamless integration of the antenna within
the confines of our sportscars. We are currently working with our suppliers
    to find a solution.

In the meantime, both XM and Sirius offer retrofit kits that can be
installed in the vehicle on your own, unfortunately not integrated into
PCM. I realize this is not an ideal solution, but until we have a factory
developed offer this is the best alternative to obtain satellite service.

    Kind regards,

    Marianne Nebel

Unless Porsche has offically notified dealers or PCA then I still think we should tread cautiously on this. I mean come on.. From 02/03/06 to a "fax" to a dealer with a retrofit? Porsche took longer just for cup holders!

Re: Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

    please provide part numbers!

Re: Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

Here's some info on the Cayenne from one of the members of the other forum:

Re: Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

    And the other:

Re: Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

The Porsche Exchange confirmed that there is no 997 retrofit kit available, but Cayenne satellite parts have been successfully installed and integrated into a 997 PCM. In two cars, to be exact.

So to clarify, no factory option or 997 part number is available for this, but it is possible using the Cayenne retrofit mentioned in this and other threads.

Re: Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

SO which parts do you need exactly? All of them (other than the right radio part)...? I have a changed, and I want Sirius.

Check out the post in this discussion by Deanski. It has all of the parts you need. I have XM installed in my 997 using the above parts and it works great.

Re: Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

I would be interested BUT does anyone know whether or not the retrofit works on the cab? Different antenna placement?

Re: Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

I did check the post - the problem is there are so many parts listed I don't know which I actually NEED to do the job. Can you help?

Re: Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

I have it on my cab and it works perfect

Re: Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

    Anyone?

Mine is a Cab and no problems from me. The antenna is on the right side at the base of the windshield. I beleive it is right next to my NAV antenna.

From my understanding you need all of the parts. When you order the Cayenne kit it comes with everything listed and you need everything. Now I'm not 100% sure as mine was done by the Porsche tech. Not sure what part if any you would not need. I hope this helps.

Re: Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

Yes you need all the parts in the Cayenne kit

Re: Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

It's not true that all the ordered parts are used. I did this myself, and there were a few cables and misc parts leftover. Remember, this part is for a Cayenne not a 997. One of the most important things to do is order the part that is for use with a cd changer, even if you don't have a cd changer. The reason is, that one of the cables that comes with the cd version is needed to complete the optic loop. Good luck, it's not that tough.

Re: Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

I've noticed that Suncoast Motorsports lists a "Retrofit" for Satellite Radio on their website. They have a "version" for the 997 (need to specify c/cs/c2 OR c4/c4s/turbo). I'm assuming they are repackaging the Cayenne kit, but not sure what the difference would be between the two. I am looking to equip an '07 987, and this is yet another kit. It seems it should all be the same? Any thoughs?

Re: Porsche Official response on 2/3/06

I think its all the same, just make sure the 987 is compatible with the Cayenne kit.

Not sue if they are repacking the kit, just installing the Cayenne kit in a 997. When I had mine installed (not by Suncoast) I was told it was the Cayenne kit. If the 07 987 has the same PSM as the 997 and Cayenne the kit should be the same. Well I would think so anyway.
