New shot of the 599 GTB...

on the cover of car magazine:

Re: New shot of the 599 GTB...

You can really see on this new shot how much the front evolved from the "blue" prototype.

Re: New shot of the 599 GTB...

Nice shot, like the new revised front more. Smoother and sleeker looking.

Re: New shot of the 599 GTB...

    I'll promise:

This car will be stunning, of course performance-wise, but also design-wise.

    And I place a bet:
99% of those, who are still moaning about the 599's design at the moment,
will be absolutely blown away after they've seen the car for the first time in flesh and will only praise the 599 GTB to the skies thereafter.

    Agreed!!

Anybody noticed the winglet spanning the bottom of the entire front bumper?

Re: New shot of the 599 GTB...

i agree rossi , with the new pictures i love the design

It usually happens with trend breaking designs (except maybe new BMWs )
To me, especially the 360 Modena comes to mind, as it really broke the trend with the traditionnal V8 Ferrari shape that culminated with the sublime F355.
The new front at the time (1999) shocked quite a few car enthousiasts but now, it is considered a very beautiful car.
We will see with the GTB, I personally mourn the loss of the four lights in the back, so evocative of modern Ferraris and the car is definitly very (too) aggresive.
Around me, a lot of people said it will look good in black which is a polite way of saying the car could look better!
And while the F430 has grown on me I'll admit, I am still not at ease with the Tex Avery proportions of the 612.
Looking forward to see the GTB in the flesh indeed.
One thing that will put everybody on the same page is its performance!

Although arguably, for the price of GTB, you could have a 997 and an F430!
    But that's another story.

Re: New shot of the 599 GTB...

I think this car is going to be amazing in every area, look at the aerodinamics for example.

Re: New shot of the 599 GTB...

I just bought the magazine, and they say that the F1 gearbox will shift gears as fast as the FXX (less than 100 ms), and that there is NO e-diff because of the 599's "configuration and balance". So, the manettino only regulates the traction control.

The article also states that Ferrari is working "flatout on it's interpretation of VW's DSG gearbox..."

The author also salutes Ferrari for not going retro like practically every other car manufacturer.

"Its a stunning achievement, especially when you remember that Ferrari lugs more emotional baggage around with it than virtually anoyone else. YEt there's been no Miura or GT40 retread for these guys. 'The temptation is enormous,' Stephenson agrees,'but Ferrari simply never will. It's just not the company's style. It understands its history, but it prefers modern solutions.'

Enzo Ferrari, as unsentimental an automotive patriarch as there's ever been, would definitely have approved."

Re: New shot of the 599 GTB...

    No E-DIFF ??? :O

Good observation. In fact, I had noticed this feature on the prototypes and is shown in my sketch...

I didn't think it would have a full E-Diff set-up. The mid-engined cars need it more then a front/mid-engined car would. But it still has the manettino as stated. Which says to me that the traction control will have MANY settings.

Re: New shot of the 599 GTB...

    good point.

So, I guess with the Testarossa and GTO of the 1980's it was just a coincidence that they used these names also in the 1950's

What's in a name? But, he was referring to the design of the car.

Re: New shot of the 599 GTB...

There are design elements on the 288GTO that harken back to the 250GTO (notably the vertical slits around the front wheels)...

Yes, thats true, but its still VERY far from a practical carbon copy of old models, a la the Ford GT being identical to the GT40, Aston Martin DB9, AMV8 and Rapide being very similar to the the DB7, the Lambo Miura concept, etc.... (no need to even mention Porsche)

Re: New shot of the 599 GTB...

    True...
