My son wants to order a 2006 Boxster - he's been driving my 997S a little too much and I think he needs his own sports car - here is what he is looking at getting - ideas / opinions / thoughts

LoL - I never thought that a 997S ownership might require a "collateral investment" into a Boxster

Your son seems to have a good taste (not only) regarding colours (classy combo he's looking for) just like his dad (thinking of the beautiful pics of your 997S)

Just some thoughts about the specs:

IMO the lighter colours like sand are calling for the full leather option (standard looks a little plasticky IMO) - maybe wortwhile considering to swap against some other options on your list in case your son doesn't like to stretch the budget I take, that the top will come in metropole blue ?

If you're considering the 2.7 base model, I think 18" do not come as "standard" (maybe diferent in the US though).

Also, as your son has become accustomed to the power of the 997 S you may consider to get a plain vanilla 987 S (or even a pre-owned lightly specced 987 S) rather than a better optioned base model

In order to decide 2.7 vs. 3.2 definitely go for an extended testdrive

And make sure that we don't read the following post from your son in a couple of months:

"My dad is driving my 987 a little too much during summer - how can I persuade him to get a 997 S cab on his own"

Good luck with the further spec process

Re: Ordering Boxster - Need Color / Option Advice

Congrats to your son for ordering his Boxster.
However, he's still gonna want to drive your 997S there dad!

Re: Ordering Boxster - Need Color / Option Advice

Don't order it without Sport Chrono (Sport Chrono Plus in this case, since it will have PCM). Hitting the "Sport" button makes the car's throttle response much, much sharper, and is well worth the $$. If you haven't played with it, go back and drive a car with Sport Chrono!!!

Re: Ordering Boxster - Need Color / Option Advice

Sounds like a nice spec though I'm unsure about two things:

    1. White gauges with a blue/sand car?

    2. If he likes your 997S, he might miss power on the standard Boxster.

Re: Ordering Boxster - Need Color / Option Advice

Quite a nice colour combo. Would definitely go full leather with sand beige though. I am also a big fan of the leather rear-centre-console. Check out the online configurator on the Porsche web site.

Re: Ordering Boxster - Need Color / Option Advice

For those who have the sand leather, how do feel with it after a while ? I must say with sand is nice, but wonder if its not too much, as dashboard does not have black coloured parts.. so lack of contrast. Also true that is looks a little bit plastick;y without full leather, in particular rear central console. Somebody would have picture of this option ???

Re: Ordering Boxster - Need Color / Option Advice

I have had sand since May 05. I drive it pretty much every day, and am not tired of it at all! I think it makes the interior less claustrophobic and 'warmer' than with black or grey, without being quite as 'in your face' as Terracotta. Also, it doesn't get as hot in the sun as black. As a downside, the beige dash does reflect in the windscreen more than black, but I haven't found it to be overly distracting.

I think there's pic of the leather rear-centre-console in sand in my gallery.

Re: Ordering Boxster - Need Color / Option Advice

    Sorry, there isn't - I will add.

    And..

Re: Ordering Boxster - Need Color / Option Advice

Great !! Many thanks it looks good; I ll think about it.

Re: Ordering Boxster - Need Color / Option Advice

I'd seriously check out Dark Olive Metallic (7G). I saw this on a 911 Cabrio and it is STUNNING! It looks almost black until the light hits it. The paint looks like a sea of metallic that you can swim in!

Re: Ordering Boxster - Need Color / Option Advice

I agree with you on the Dark Olive Metallic (7G) color. It is very stunning up close and personal. I had a Forest Green Metallic 996 C4S and was never crazy about that color, but the Dark Olive Metallic is very different. It would look awesome with the Sand Beige leather!

Re: Ordering Boxster - Need Color / Option Advice

Last time I was in my dealers, they had exactly this combination. I think it was Olive, and sand. Looked great. Still not sure dark green suits the lines of the car though.

Re: Ordering Boxster - Need Color / Option Advice

Dark Olive sure is a very understated colour - its almost black on a cludy dat, with a hint of green up close. In the sun the green and gold flecks really sparkle. I think its more suited to tin tops where the body and roof colour are consistent

Re: Ordering Boxster - Need Color / Option Advice

Here's a pic of my old Forest Green Metallic 996 to show the difference between the two greens.
