Car & Driver's 997TT -Many Pics and Info-

    I like what I see....

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT Test Drive!!!! -Many PICS-

Are we lucky that this picture isn't hosted on our site.

    BTW: this is no testdrive.

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT Test Drive!!!! -Many PICS-

Did they invite C&D? Or did C&D just gather info and wrote the article??

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT Test Drive!!!! -Many PICS-

Where would the Boost Guage be...?

They invited them...like they did with other magazines too who will soon write about their experience. Porsche did the same marketing "trick" with the 997 when they invited car journalists to join them during their final testrides in South Africa. Clever thing to do.

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT Test Drive!!!! -Many PICS-

so it was a "test drive"...?

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT Test Drive!!!! -Many PICS-

    Hmmm...

    Let's see:

    1) 90 lbs lighter than the 996TT... That is a very pleasent surprise, I was not expecting that at all.

    2) 473 hp and 502 (!) lbs-ft peak torque... excellent. And available at 1950 rpm!!!

    3) 500+ hp in Turbo S - great!

    4) There will be a GT2 - great^2!

    5) No PDK at launch, well, too bad on that. But I'd rather Porsche finish the testing and development to their satisfaction first.

Overall it looks like Porsche has really nailed this one after all. I'm especially happy about the 90 lbs weight reduction.

    Thanks for posting.

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT Test Drive!!!! -Many PICS-

I like it! I think I will wait for PDK though. I'm really enjoying my Turbo S!

Any word on when the GT2 is going to appear?

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT Test Drive!!!! -Many PICS-

so much for the no overboost feature! bring on the boooost

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT Test Drive!!!! -Many PICS-

RC the guy mentions a time of 3.6sec for a manual transmission is this a fact? I was under the assumption a tip would be faster hence me ordering likewise. This has got me a bit....

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT Test Drive!!!! -Many PICS-

what is the yellow button for? it is located beside the handbrake and below the shift lever. is that the boost gauge?

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT -Many Pics and Info-

Looks like we'll have to wait for the Turbo S or GT2 to be able to handle a Z06.

Normal tt will have the same performance as the Z06 in the straight line on a dry surface, but kill it in the bends. tts will beat Z06 everywhere..

so why should the turbo be slower?

If some of you would just set your Porsche egos to the side for a moment we may actually force Porsche to give us better cars initially instead of holding back...

Do the math the Z06 weighs at least 100 kgs less and is rated at 500 HP. Top speed is 198. Even if it's GM's funny numbers and the car actually only had 473 HP as well, the weight disparity would still hamper the turbo.

Porsches are well known for their abilities with heavier and less powerful cars, to be faster, no matter on a straight line or on a track, mostly on a track... Here's something like a proof, not with a 911 Turbo, but with the Carrera GT, which is faster on the Ring than the Zonda F and Koenigsegg CCR

    7:28 --- 166.652 km/h -- Porsche Carrera GT, 612 PS/ 1475 kg, Walther Roehrl,(Autobild 07/04)

    7:32 -- 164.071 km/h Pagani Zonda F, 650 PS/ 1230 kg, www.autodrome-cannes.com/index-eng.asp

    7:34 --- 163.586 km/h Koenigsegg CCR, 806 PS/1180 kg, Horst von Saurma (sport auto), oct,17-18 05, http://www.koenigsegg.com/news/arti...page=&type=news

The 997 Turbo will be a real blast...

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT -Many Pics and Info-

On a track that exceeds 7 minutes in length to finish... too many variables come into play. The CGT may or may not be faster on any given day with any given driver. A test would be hard to perform because the selected driver would need to be equally familiar with each vehicle.

This still has nothing to do with the fact that the Z06 will be a faster car than a 997 turbo. For the price that's just not acceptable.

No button, just the airbag off display.

Why don't you just wait for the first REAL review with REAL numbers done by REAL test drivers?

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT -Many Pics and Info-

I think RC is right! Don't underestimate the new 911 Turbo - it's the newest version of the King !

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT -Many Pics and Info-

anyone have an idea on how much the PCCB option will be??

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT -Many Pics and Info-

I think given the fact that the 997 TT is AWD, has rear seats and has a strong steel structure, it's weight is actually quite good compared to a Z06.

Still can't get over how much bang for the buck the Z06 offers though.

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT -Many Pics and Info-

Thanks for posting the article! The lower weight is definitely welcomed news.

    Thanks again,

    Amir

no problem Amir... thats why we are all here...

Re: Car & Driver's 997TT -Many Pics and Info-

Are the headlights in the C&D pics still masked? If they are for real... those appendages towards the center line look gratuitous.
