:-) very true grant! I enjoyed reading your gt4 ED experience.  I am very excited for the prospect of owning this car, provided i can get a spot.  Not a day goes by where I dont mention it to my wife. I must have talked about owing a Porsche gt car every day since 2012. I really hope the car is less than 140k usd. I am setting myself a budget of 20k in options. Buckets, leather dash, leds, special color , lwfw if avail,  maybe lift and a few odds and ends . I almost purchased a Mitsubishi evo in 05 but ended up with an sti. Always had a place in my heart for the evo!

Unless it is as tall as the wing on the RS then one can see under the wing.

I haven't given it too much thought actually. I've never been to Europe before and this would be the perfect opportunity. This sounds a bit silly, but I'm hoping to have PPF installed immediately post delivery. I'm not sure how that would work in Germany if I schedule an installation date with a shop,  but delivery gets delayed. I'll have to look into it for sure . Did you do any PPF work there?

Any idea when US dealers will start to take deposits?  I visited my dealer (stop laughing) and they had no idea what a new GT3 991.2 is.  At any rate, I got on a new list they created.  FWIW. Any serious dealers out there who are ready to take a deposit?

I would guess most larger US dealers already have long, long lists.  My dealer is a fairly large premier dealer (for whatever that's worth) and they have been taking deposits for a while now.  I'm #4 on the list with only one 918 owner left for their VIP list.  I have a pretty good relationship with them but am small potatoes compared to a lot of their clients so fingers are crossed.

Good luck, suggest start calling dealerships.  Oh and I put my deposit down back around May or June.

Wow the news on your dealer just gets worse.... sad indeed. But people like us who have bought few or no new Porsches will never get on VIP lists - I am happy just waiting till all the hundreds of "must-try-new-thing" owners flip their cars with 2000 mi, price settles to MSRP minus mileage discount, and buy used. Witness the lineups of GT3RS models sitting on lots right now.

I've had a deposit for about a year (#1 at small dealer with no 918 customers - only got 3 allocations for last GT3).  $1k on credit card, promise of MSRP and Euro Delivery

US dealers will get allocations shortly after the Geneva show. Deliveries in the US probably August or September.

Leawood, get on a couple of list. Call around. The car will be worth the effort.

I agree with the idea to call around, but getting your name on more than one list is a little bit risky - Porsche does notice if the same name is on multiple lists and frowns on this.

I heard of people on multiple GT4 lists that received some negative feedback (I guess it could have been untrue?)

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

It may be true if the buyer was buying more than one from several dealers.

FWIW, Ferrari has or had a rule a dealer could not sell an allocation to a private buyer outside his geographic area unless it was to another dealer. They may have changed it but I don't believe so. LandRover has a similar rule.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

Yes Ferrari dealerships have a territorial clause. They can only sell pre-used to customers outside of the territory.

Porsche however doesn't have that, that's why people can buy new cars from out of state dealers.

Knowing Porsche and being able to connect the dots, it's very simple:

Official webspecial intro: last Thursday of February.

    World premiere: Geneva 2017.

i heard "beginning of February" - but I am not sure if this is true.....
However, we know everything about the car. The only thing that's not really sure is the "touring option"?!

Autocar are saying the 991.2 is the last NA:  http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/2019-porsche-911-will-use-only-turbo-six-cylinder-engines-and-get-hybrid

This is not valid for future GT models as far as I know...

Hybrid will help to reduce emissions and fleet consumptions, it will also help to provide more substantial power for the top of the line models (for example for the 2020 992 Turbo models).

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

Just think of it how competitive a new product could be by squeezing another 20hp out or so or reduce 50 kgs......- well......

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

They really need to do some magic to sort the weight issue with hybrid tech. Otherwise the 992 will become very heavy. Battery+EV motors weight 300+kg for the Panamera and even if they successfully lower the weight for the 992, it will still be heavy.

Porsche should focus on all electric instead and skip the silly hybrids. Why not spend some effort developing cooling systems and invest in battery tech and really win that race instead? They will just got beaten by others if they continue to develop old tech for much longer. It is just too many complex components in a hybrid - petrol engine, gearbox, batteries, EV-motor, batteries that needs to be kept in the wrong place due to transmission tunnels, etc etc....

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

Hybrids don't need too big a battery, cause it was the supplementary system, a pure electric will need a lot more batteries simply because it's the primary propulsion unit.

For 911 purposes, a pure electric range of perhaps 10-15 km is good enough.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

All electric 911 isn't 911 at all. Hybrid is best from both worlds.
