The Alpina was claimed to be very fast...guess not.

Well I think I'd take the CLS55 anyday.

Seriously, Fritz, the B5 looks butt ugly. The M5 however, I have slightly warmed up to. Not forgetting to mention the fact that the M5 feels more solid inteior wise than the CLS. These two cars offer different worlds. You don't go to BMW for a comfy automatic and you don't go to Mercedes for an invigorating and involving driving experience. Its somehow good that way
