    Anyone driven 997s and CLS55 AMG?

    May have a chance to look at a CLS55 at dealer this week. Probably won't get a test drive. They are different cars of course, but how does the drive experience compare?

    Re: Anyone driven 997s and CLS55 AMG?

    u can't compare a porsche to a MB, end of story

    they say it's handling is not too shabby although the m5 is slightly better

    Re: Anyone driven 997s and CLS55 AMG?

    There is one CLS55 in my town, and to no surprise it's for somebody's wife (I mean the license plate even say's their kid's name+MOM). I've driven it twice, once on the highway, once in street traffic and it was impressive, but similar to other AMG models in terms of performance/handling.

    But has been said before, you cannot compare MB and Porsche...it's like comparing a 747 to an F-15...with a Porsche obviously being an F-15....actually, let me take that back....it's like comparing a 747 (with F-15 engines) to an F-15.

    Thanks for the info. Yes I am familiar with the 997s. In the real world not much can keep up with it; it doesn't seem to see corners so much as drive through them. Torque is a bit low though. Only ONE CLS55 in New York City BTW? The city that's the home of the mean black Merc?

    You also have to evaluate your driving priorities. I highly prefer not only the added dynamics of a sports car compared to a sedan, but more importantly, the driving experience. One is more isolated and refined, whereas one is more fun. However some people cannot live with less practicality.

    Personally I find the 997 quite comfortable. Haven't driven a CLS55 unfortunately, but I don't care much for the E55.

    I think both cars do what the were created to very well. I havn't driven the CLS55 either, but the E55 is a great sedan.
    I would hope that the CLS would be even more dynamic than the E55, but it will never offer the same sense of connection and involvement of a 997s.
    I'm sure that it's been said many times before, but comparing the two is basically comparing a sporty car to a sports car.

    I'm sorry, I forgot to specify - there is only one CLS55 in Chappaqua, NY (a small hamlet in Westchester county) that I know of. NYC probably has at least 15 of them, haha. I kinda like it over Vanessa Williams' laser blue Maserati though...

    Just for the record, an F-15 with BOTH engines on afterburner produces as much thrust as ONE engine on a 747-400.

    Maybe the CLS65 won't look like a Civic from behind

    I'm not a sedan guy, but, to be fair, from what I understand, CLS is a smash sales success for Merc...and the profit margins on $100K CLS55's are prob particularly good (doubt BMW will earn as much per-unit profit on the new M5, which is priced about $10-15K less). This 4-dr coupe styling theme will prob be mimicked on Panamera and by BMW.....but the buyer base to which CLS is prob best attuned is the "ladies-that-lunch" crowd (and guys whose wives drive car purchase decisions )....and the interior looks like Jag designed it ....but hey the damn thing sells.....and one does need to make profits in the car business, right?

    All that car will do, is even faster take you to the corners it can't handle.
    Merc= Sublime cruiser. Inferior handling
    Porsche=Sublime handling, impractical cruiser

    You're comparing apples and....lingerie.
    Comparing those two cars isnt fair - to any of them.
