    Final Decision Time, Which One?

About to finalize decision but need more feedback on why I should go with either the GT3 or C4S. I know different kind of cars, but which one fits me better.

    1. Hwy weekend driving, maybe 3-4 times a year I would track the car.

    2. On the C4S, I really liked the AW dr handling. But I would like to have more torque, can afford the Turbo, so that's why I am looking at the GT3.

    3. Test drove a GT3 last weekend, wow amazing car, a real big difference, sweet engine sound, raw power, great extra torque. However, love the C4S, w/ PSM & Sports Exhaust. I like having the PSM as an added safety feature, but could see myself going to the track and driving a GT3 w/out PSM and having some fun.

For those of you who have your GT3's, what's your experience in driver/passenger ride comfort, how does it handle on the hwys, how often are going to the track? Is this car so demanding of your steering?

    4. I read one poster that said, the GT3 is mainly for tracking and that its okay for hwy driving but only from the hotel to track and back again. I also read that some owners are reporting front spoiler end bottoming out over minor highway bumps. Any opinion on this?

I live in a suburan area, the roads are okay, but not great just average.

    5. Originally going to order C4S, like the wide body, turbo brakes and suspension, look of the Turbo, along with the creature comfort heated sports seats, sunroof, bose, but I'm willing to trade all for higher torque performance of GT3.

The GT3 is awesome, one drive and you can't sleep at night, but I am very concerned that I may be over my head in choosing this beast vs the sure steady C4S. I like to throttle my car, but most of the time I like cruising and taking some twisties whenever the moment calls for it. Compared to a GT3, I wouldn't mind having the PSM on, as an added safety.

I don't have enough experience in getting out of trouble, that is why the PSM appeals to my safety concerns. When I test drove the GT3, I throttled it just a little in getting around a street corner and the rear end started to swing out, I wasn't expecting that, I didn't lose control, but if that was a C4S, it most likely would not have happened because PSM would have kicked in.

In your opinion, is the GT3 meant for a very skilled Porsche enthusiast, who wants to mainly track the car the majority of the time?

The GT3 is an amazing sports car, but perhaps not for me.

    Appreciate your feedback.

Re: Final Decision Time, Which One?

Based upon what you have told us ,I would definately recommend you to buy the C4S.

Re: Final Decision Time, Which One?

If you desire an aid while driving, don't go GT3...The GT3 needs to be driven correctly like any high performance car. If your on the street and take a 90 degree right turn and gas it, of course it will slide out...That is not how to properly drive the car. If you like to drive improperly, the C4S is the way to go because it will minimize your driving mistakes. If you can brake and downshift going into the turn, once the car is going into the indicated direction that is the time to gas it...not while the car is actually in the middle of the turn.

As far as highway driving, the GT3 is fine. The person who posted it is only good to and from the track must be smoking something or prefers the ride of a Cadillac...Get the GT3...You will not regret it!!!!

Re: Final Decision Time, Which One?

I've said before but if you consider the C4S and the GT3 and you're not sure, go with the C4S.

You are talking about ride comfort, PSM, heated seats, sunroof and Bose. All legitimate "wants", but a GT3 buyer finds a C4S satisfying but a bit "soft", is offended by the intrusion of PSM, sees only extra weight, reduced torsional rigidity and a higher centre of gravity attached to the word sunroof, and thinks Bose and loungeroom go together.

Seriously, don't talk yourself into the GT3.

    Best,

    Tim

Re: Final Decision Time, Which One?

    go with the c4s.

leave the gt3's for those who can't live without one.

Re: Final Decision Time, Which One?

Stretch and go for a turbo, you will never miss the extra $$ in the long run. Or you can pick up great buys on a fresh, pre-owned one. There's nothing like the boost, and you can always play with chips for even more fun.

If you cannot get the turbo, get the C4S. I have owned lots of street race Porsches (904, Carrera RS 3.0, for example), and you will quickly want more comfort for daily use and some occasional track fun...

Re: Final Decision Time, Which One?

    Guys,

After reading and speaking to a number of people, GT and C4S owner and my contacts at Porsche, I'm going with the GT3.

It was a very tough decision, the C4S was the car I was after for a very long time, in the end, I'm willing to trade away the xtra's of the C4S for a more exhiliarating driving experience of the GT3. You just can ignore the torque and power of 381 hp vs 320 hp, the sound of GT3 is great, don't get me wrong I love the C4S, but if I had gone with it, I know I would have asked myself, maybe I should have gone with the GT3, this is my only chance, you only go around once as they say, this is no dress rehearsal!

    Thanks for everyone's feedback!

This says it right here. You made the right decision to go with the GT3. Just feel out its limits slowly in a controlled environment and have fun.

Re: Final Decision Time, Which One?

I think you have made the right decision by going with the GT3. It is truly a special car. The sound of the exhuast is truly an intoxicating experience. I think the GT3 is something that you will relish each time you take her out.

    Hi porscheaddict,

maybe this experience is also interesting for you:

    Resale value for a C4S (to buy a GT3)

I ever wanted a GT3. Because of my less driving experience I ordered a C4S.

The C4S is a great car. But even though it has the powerkit, sports exhaust and semi-slicks I still want a GT3.

I also test drove a GT3 and ... I lose control. (I wasn't really fast - first gear - but 0 degree Celsius and a bumby road. I didn't had a clue that this car will behave that "angry".)

I talked to some Porsche drivers and they told me that this a typical "problem" for beginners. Second gear wouldn't be that "angry". But they also told me that I wouldn't be able to drive a GT3 as fast as my C4S. (And I have some first training and track experiences.)

However after due consideration I came to the point that this all about your mental attitude to this car and that you should be able to adjust you driving style and learn the GT3! With this principle you should have the fun you are expecting.

So I decide to change the car in spring which will cost me a lot of money.

Money YOU can avoid right now.

    mobile

PS: My Porsche dealer told me that there will be a special training im Leipzig next year for people who wanted to change there car for a GT3. On time the Instructor will drive your car and a GT3 with you. And then it is your turn to drive the same cars. Sounds very interesting for me.

    porscheaddict:

You are making the right decision...As others have said, the GT3 will make you happier in the long run and force you to become a better driver. Be sure to post pics when you pick one up...Nothing better than GT3 porn!!!

    GT3 sound

The only time I've seen a GT3 was with Ron Houston actually and it looked great but at low revs, the PSE sounds much louder and better, of course at 8000 rpm it must sound better simplys because, erm.. the 996 doens't go to 8000 rpm
But did you consider that Porscheaddict? You seem to give lots of attention to sound in which case the PSE is quite fantastic (expecially with that swith thingy)
I would have suggested you maybe to look into a C4S X51 (345 hp) X74 (-20mm suspension, not quite GT3 setup but close and very track friendly according to RC) and PSE, but that's pushing the price into Turbo territory and maybe even more than a GT3.
Anyway, you've made your choice and I can only congratulate you, you've bought an icon!
    Fanch.
